OK. I am looking at my dismal wardrobe of t-shirts and long-sleeve t-shirts and thinking I need a new look.
What sort of tops do you wear that are baby and baby wearing friendly and don't need to be dry cleaned?

I have found some well-made, attractive tops at A Mother's Boutique online. They have good sales. I have two Annee Matthews tops from there. Mommy Gear has some cute stuff, too, but most is too clingy for me.

I got a couple of lightweight sweater type tops, and I got a knit vest that looks nice.. which helps dress up the tees without being dressy. those couple of things just really made a difference in feeling like I was dressed nicely vs sloppy. Oh another look I like.. a light fleece poncho over a mockneck top, so you see the color at the neck. So like I'll wear my black cord skirt with a black mockneck and a red plaid poncho. It's warm and comfy and a bit snazzy feeling.

one other idea while it's winter.. wear a scarf with the tees.. easy to put on or take off if you don't want it on while working around the house.. but can really add a bit of color and texture to a plain tee.

I really like A Mother's Boutique, too, but they are a bit pricey for every day.
These make almost anything nursing friendly! The neck is stretchy (just be sure to buy the merrow edges ones and not the ones with binding) and pulls down so your tummy stays covered when you unbutton or lift a top to nurse. They are also long and close-fitting so they stay in place when baby is pulling at the neck or when the sling (or a child) hitches up the hem of my top. I wear them under sweaters or fitted, button-up blouses (undo the bottom few buttons, lift blouse, pull down neck of tee).

So, Sara, you can nurse in those tees by pulling down on the neckline? And the shirts stand up to that? Now that my baby is not constantly on my person I'm realizing that I'm in pretty serious need of a wardrobe update. I'm still wearing the five maternity long-sleeve tees I bought about a year ago. They are stretchy so they don't look quite like maternity clothes but they also don't look nice anymore!
I've been trying to figure out what I'm missing--why I can never seem to look pulled together--and I think that I need to think in layers a bit more: t-shirt, middle layer, jacket, etc. Or something like that. I like the scarf idea, too.
And my baby is getting to that age where he still nurses all the time but not very discreetly so I'm very interested in an under layer for nursing.

The merrow edged shirts from Downeast Basics (the one I linked) and from Shade Clothing stand up to being pulled down to nurse really well. They say not to machine dry them, but I do anyway and even the ones that I have been wearing more than once a week for over a year are still going strong.

I agree with the scarf idea. I think accessories pull things together.
I may be wearing a long sleeve t-shirt with a skirt for the day, but once I add a scarf, sweater, necklace, or earrings, etc, it just looks a bit nicer. I'm a real Texas girl, so I love big hair and big jewelry, so I pretty much wear some earrings every day at least. Since I always have worn them, I haven't had issues with babies pulling or any such thing.
Specifically regarding tops, I also almost always wear long sleeve t's, but layer. I look awful in regular t-shirts, so I don't wear those, but long sleeve or 3/4 sleeve layered over a longer cami are my favorites. Most of my camis come from Shade Clothing, as mentioned above, but I'm not really impressed with their quality over time. Nonetheless, I think that wearing the layered look "smooths" me out, if you know what I mean!
Since being married, I've been in in a constant state of being pregnant or nursing, and this has worked well for me.
