Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

... of curriculum!! AND books in general
The Christmas purge post has me thinking about my own purging habits (or lack of). I have a pretty good handle on purging clothing, outdated medicine and some other things BUT it's been an ongoing battle to purge 2 particular rooms in the house... the school room and the guest room (better known as the room where every thing without a home migrates, but that's another post).

The reason for the purge, other than daily peace, is that I need to streamline our school day (AND clean the guest room) in preparation for baby due mid-January. (I'm probably nesting )

Streamlining school is priority as the baby won't need her own room immediately but I will need a school day that runs as smoothly as possible before she gets here to throw the whole schedule off

I have come to realize that streamlining the school day hinges on getting rid of the excess in the schoolroom... and boy is there excess! I have a hard time pulling out what's important when it's buried under so much. The problem is that the "so much" is all good stuff and I have a hard time letting it go. My boys are also almost 6 years apart and I hold on to things I used with ds#1 thinking they'll get used again. Seems very frugal, yes? For example, I have math grades 3-7 that I used with ds#1 and we have started using grade 3 with ds#2, however, while it fit ds#1, ds#2 hates it. BUT it seems so wasteful not to use what we have! ACK!

There are also things that have been sitting on my shelf (for YEARS) waiting for use that we've never gotten around to... and probably never will. I should sell these but I keep thinking, "what if we decide to use it?"
Even though I'd be selling these things and not throwing them away, I feel so wasteful. Many things have been purchased used... but too many things have been purchased!

Can anyone relate?
Any tips to letting this stuff go?
Advice on how you decide what to keep and for how long between children with obviously different learning styles?
Or perhaps just give permission to purge?

well something that will help with immediate results.. don't worry about the getting rid of.. pack them into boxes.. once you have it cleared out even if you have a pile of boxes in the corner.. you'll be able to tell clear down to your bones that you want that extra gone.. But if you get there and then recall something you really didn't want to get rid of.. you can still retrieve it.. maybe then you could pack them off somewhere out of sight.. and in 6 months or a year.. you can ask yourself if there's anything in those boxes you want to retrieve.. and if not.. just take them out without opening them and renewing the desire to keep them.. or since you did say you need to sell them.. give yourself a limit.. time limit and maybe book limit.. tell yourself that you have 1 week to try and remember anything in the boxes that you really want after not having it around for a while.. and then get rid of everything else but also you can give yourself a limit of 5 items for instance.. that you can keep when you go through them to sell them. Then at least you'll only keep the top 5 things from the boxes.
