So, this morning my dh reminds me that I need to take our new cat (who followed us home from a nature walk two week ago) to the vet this morning for her shots. We have been unable to schedule an appointment for her, because she comes and goes, and we never know if we will be able to find her for say, a 2 o'clock appt.. But the vet has walk in hours on Saturday, so we knew that if we could scoop her up this morning and get to the vet early, before it's get busy, we could have her check-up done.
So this is how it went down: dh sees the cat in the backyard. A flurry of excitement breaks out inside: get her, dad! Hurry! Everyone is scrambling but at the same time trying to act calm so as not to scare her off. She is not fooled. It is touch and go for a few minutes, but dh manages to corral her.
I am not dressed, but once the cat has been put in the cat carrier under protest and is pitifully wailing, I am motivated to throw on a pair of sweatpants and a sweat shirt over my pajamas and a jacket over it all and hustle out the door to the vet, which is just a two minute drive away.
All goes well at the vet, but the traffic (just to cross the street, mind you) is very bad because:
1) there is a neighborhood wide garage sale going on and
2) there is, at the same time, unfortunately, a bike race going on and the route goes right past the entrance to our subdivision.
I get home, lamenting the traffic, and realize that all my other Saturday errands (which have been pushed back by the surprise cat appt) still need to be done. I am not dressed yet (and am starting to feel a little warm in my sweatsuit/pajama/coat ensemble, but I decide I can just run out to Target before I come home and take a shower.
So off to Target I go- and, yay- all the Halloween stuff is 90% off, so I have to look at all that and buy a couple of things, including a costume for the dog for next year since it was only 99 cents, and our neighborhood has a pet costume party each year (believe it or not- complete with trick or treating for milk bones).
And then I have to stop at the library to pick up my reserves for the week and *maybe* find something for myself to read that is longer than 48 pages.
By this time I am feeling quite warm but. of course, cannot take off my coat because I have on an ancient college sweatshirt over my pajamas.
Argh.
So I sweat it out until I get home, at which point I realize that: oh, dear- I have just gone out shopping in my pajamas to buy my dog a mailman outfit. This seems not quite right somehow. But, hey- at least I didn't have the kids with me.
Still... I am worried that this is how it all starts... next stop... looney bin...

Melinda, the only way that all could have been better than just reading your hysterical story is to have lived close enough that you would have ALSO been compelled to stop in at my house on the way home for a cup of coffee to recoup....and tell this in person.....OH MY!!!! (except, sorry...the cat would have to stay outside, I am horribly allergic!!)

I will tell you a funny story that complements that one
One morning I realised we were out of milk (no big surprise there) and decided to make a quick run to the store around the corner. As it is soooo cold here in the winter I thought I would skip a step and also put my pants over my pjs. So I went into the store, grabbed the milk, then as I was coming out of the store I saw on the snow a pair of undies right in the middle of the parking lot!! Well, I was thouroughly disgusted until as I was walking by I discovered they were mine!! I guess as I was quickly putting on my pants (from yesterday to save laundry) that I didn't see that I had taken them off the night before and forgotten to chuck the undies in the laundry. THE HORROR!!! I realised I could have had them hanging out the bottom of my pants through the whole store
To top it off, when I came home my relaxed husband asked if I grabbed the undies!! (Which I most certainly didn't!!)
It made for a good laugh at the beginning of the day....

Thanks for a great laugh with my tea this morning.
