With this baby due at the end of December she will be Baptized at the beginning of February (our parish does Baptisms the 1st Sunday of the month and she may not be here for the first Sunday of January!). I want to try to find a Baptismal gown soon for her so that way it's all set (or at least picked out).
Does anyone have any good sites/stores that you've found your children's gowns at? I'm also toying with the idea of sewing one or having my mom sew one. We shall see!

If you do end up sewing one, I made one for my youngest last year using Simplicity 5813 and it came out really nice. I made the gown but amended the pattern to be more gender neutral so that our future children will be able to wear it as well.

We ordered something for our son from catholicchildrenscompany.com. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't too bad, and I wanted something good quality that I could use for other boys and maybe pass down to grandchildren someday....and I don't sew very well at all.
My girls have worn my old baptism gown.

I have a gown that was made for my mom, back in the days when babies were baptized before their mom was released from the hospital! (definite encouragement to schedule baptisms asap, before the baby grows too big for the gown).
My mom, two of her brothers, myself and my six siblings and my five were all baptised in this gown!
My mom gave me a book with pictures and copies of baptismal certificates for all the babies when she gave me the gown, and my children have loved our baptism album with the generations of babies.

Thank you for the suggestions!
Ekbell...I had wanted to use the gown that was used by me but when my mom brought if out of the attic this past weekend we found that it had yellowed too much to be used again my mom was very disappointed and upset with herself for not preserving it better.

Oh, that's too bad. We almost lost mine this way. My mom realized this at some point when I was still growing up and was able to soak it in a weak bleach solution and wrap it up. After my oldest was baptised, I paid to have it "heirloomed" by a dry-cleaner (because I thought I was done having babies, snort).

We have all been baptized in the gown that my grandmother was baptized in - and my dad, all my siblings and nieces, nephews, cousins and their children and my children - except one of my brothers (he was a twin and both couldn't wear the gown at the same time). At some point, it just was getting very delicate and we were afraid to use it any more. Plus this was made when babies were tiny and we were having 10 and 11 pound babies - so:
My mom hired a heirloom sewer to make an identical copy, but slightly larger, of the original gown. (There was a lot of French sewing and it was completely hand sewn gown) along with 2 bonnets - one girlish and one boyish. We no longer use the original, but my aunt had it preserved and displayed in a shadow box. Perhaps you could do something like that.

oh Janet that's a lovely idea.
Wonder how I can remember it for when the gown we have gets too fragile.

Jen,
I don't know how much you want to spend but if you want an heirloom piece that can be passed down for generations I highly recommend Strasburg Children.
Their dresses are of the highest quality and will last. My very generous father has bought my children a dress or outfit for Christmas each year of their lives and they are simply gorgeous!
