Not sports - NO! - Military Balls rather!
Last Friday we attended the Navy Chief Khaki Ball down here in Key West. I found a gorgeous dress that you can see here. I LOVE my dress, but the next ball, the Navy Ball, is October 16 and I need a new one! I cannot wear the same dress twice within a month basically! Horrors!!! So, anybody go to their Khaki Ball last week? Planning on attending another Ball in the near future? I was just informed tonight by a Seabee that their Ball is in March, you Seabee girls have plenty of time to order something online! I think my aunt said the Marine Ball is in November? Air Force and Coast Guard and others I'm unsure of...
Whatcha wearin'? Inquiring minds want to know.

Wow, are people wearing short dresses to military balls these days?
Our last Navy Ball (always in Oct.) was four years ago, and I will have to start going to them next fall, so I guess I need to get up to speed on fashions. I have always worn long dresses.
I have a long gauzy formal black skirt that I pair with different tops (2 times over a three-year tour) and another long dress that I wear the second year - not black. That way I can rotate through all of the outfits each time we move. Sometimes I buy new tops - I have a black lace one and a velvet one right now. (Don't know if they still fit, though! )

Nancy, I have to think short dresses have to be a Key West thing. Dh was appalled at the idea, but I went with my girlfriends' advice rather than fashion advice from someone who wore the same outfits daily for several decades. I don't think I saw one floor length dress there, actually! Even on girls who were with guys in uniform. Lots of tea length though and oddly enough quite a few retro trapeze dresses that were super short in big swirly 60's patterns. Your gauzy long skirt sounds like one of those perfect buys that make one smile every time you look in the closet.
Jackie, it is fun, isn't it? Such a nice break from the everyday slog to get all dressed up and go have fun with friends. I hope she finds a gorgeous dress for herself that she adores!

I haven't been to a military ball since we were at Fort Bragg in the mid-90s! I miss the getting dressed up part but don't miss all the other stuff.
Jennifer, your dress is gorgeous!

Funny you should ask. Air Force Balls are usually around the birthday of the Air Force, which is Sept. 18. This year we're having a Joint Base Dinning Out, which they sort of promoted as a Ball at first, but have since gone back to calling it a Dinning Out with dancing and no grog bowl. We're going to that this Friday. Air Force, Army and Navy folks will all be there.
But to answer your original question, I'm wearing a tea-length black skirt and a copper, kinda shimmery, top. Aaand I'm throwin' a couple of rhinestone thingys in my hair to dress it all up a little.
