I just had to share that my oldest dd came in 2nd place for 11-18 year olds in Illuminated Ink's Christmas art contest. You can see the winners here. I am so proud of her.
And Mary G., I see that it looks like your 5yo dd was a winner too! What a good little narrator she is.

Yes, Maggie was quite excited to win. Thomas, on the other hand, wasn't so thrilled. But then I showed him that the prize would probably be stuff that he'd give to Maggie anyway he wasn't so sad! We had fun doing this contest right before we stopped for Christmas break....they have such cool contests at Illuminated Ink!

Mary, I must not be a careful reader. I only just now noticed the part in Irene's post about your Maggie! Congratulations! I just read her narration, and it is excellent--unbelievably good work, especially for a little five year old! Congratulations to Maggie--and to Thomas too! I need to go back and look for his winning entry, but I know it is great.

Well.... Thomas didn't win which is why he was upset .
But Maggie has been my little budding writer. Here's a narration she did last night of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe -- which we haven't talked about since December 12th! She's thriving on this living learning things.....
Once there was an Indian who went to Church every Sunday. One day he went all the way from his little house to the chapel. He saw a beautiful lady. The Lady said, “do not fear me. I want a Church to sit right near here where I am standing. Tell the bishop that I want a Church built right here.”
So he went to the bishop and said, “a lady dressed in white and blue wants a church right where she is standing”. The bishop said come back here another Sunday.
So he saw the lady again. She told him “please cut me some roses over there.” He was kind of mixed up because he didn’t see the roses before. So he cut the roses and put them in his tilma and the next time the Bishop said “what do you have in that pack”
And the Bishop and his men were looking at the roses and at the tilma. He looked down when he opened his eyes again, in his tilma there was nothing but a picture of the Lady of Guadalupe. “We should build a chucrch at once.”
And so they did and now everybody goes there and sees the Lady of Guadalupe. Many people published this book because a little girl wrote it when she was five.
The End.
I particularly like the ending -- I guess the sweet smell of success has affected her a bit!

That was a terrific narration for a 5yo--and from a memory of a book read a month ago! Great job!
