Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Someone posted a family activity, something along the lines of

"If you have this many ____ in your house, add 15 cents per each and thank God..."

I think it was an Advent activity. I checked this board, Real Learning, and A Living Faith and I can't find it anywhere!

Any ideas on where to find it? I am putting together stuff to do during Lent and I would really like to incorporate this idea.

Thanks so much.

Blessings,

I'm planning on using it also. I found it in A Living Faith forum on page 3 under the title Blessing Box. BrendaPeter posted the idea. I would have made a direct link, but I'm not that smart!

Hope this helps!

Thank you!!! I don't think I would have ever remembered the title of the thread.

One more question, if I may, as I am still a newbie with the Liturgical Year???

If I want to start this on Ash Wednesday, and finish it on Good Friday... On Sundays, the kids will tithe to the jar. Aren't there 40 days in Lent, not counting Sundays? Does this count Holy Week? And if so, since there are 38 days to the Blessing Box, does that mean I only need to write 2 of my own?

I'm *totally confused* by the numbering of Lent.

You, and everyone else out there. Not a Lent goes by without a discussion on the numbering of Lent.

The confusion relates to the fact that we say "Forty Days of Lent," imitating and using that Biblical number of 40, like Jesus' days in the desert, Noah's Flood, etc. The problem: our liturgical year wasn't created in a day, it has evolved over hundreds of years. The penitential season of Easter, or Lent, has ebbed and flowed with different days.

The 1969 reform of the General Roman Calendar came up with Lent beginning with Ash Wednesday and ending Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday evening. That makes 44 days total, or 38 if you don't include Sunday (which I don't). The Easter Triduum is a time set apart from Lent...three days on its own.

For your children, the Triduum would still be penitential time and anticipation to Easter, so you could decide whether to include those days in your Box or set apart that time to do some additional things.

Thanks so much, Jen. This is very helpful. I think I understand now.
