One of my Christmas gifts from dh was a magazine subscription. I'm in the mood for a women's magazine. I'm trying to decide between Faith and Family and Canticle. What do you like and why? And is there another Catholic women's mag. that I perhaps don't know about?

I don't know the others you mention, only Faith and Family, and I love that one. It's pleasing to the eye, and has nice ideas.
I have secular magazines I like -- I get Martha Stewart Living, and her Kids Magazines. Again, the photos are so good, and there hasn't been one issue where I haven't taken a good idea (a good thing  ). I also enjoy Southern Living.

Jenn and I have similar tastes in magazines! I love Faith and Family, and I always sit down right away with a cup of tea when I receive a new issue! I believe it is associated with The Legionnaries of Christ. It is very orthodox, I enjoy the writing, the photography is beautiful. Danielle Bean is a frequent contributor--I don't know if you are familiar with her blog or book, My Cup of Tea. I also enjoy MS Living and MS Kids. I don't get Southern Living, but I do get Sunset Magazine

If you want one that is more like a secular women's magazine (in appearance and layout, NOT in content) I'd go with Faith & Family, but if you want more spiritual 'meat' go with Canticle.
Both are wonderful, though!

Thanks for the info, everyone.
Is Canticle heavy heavy reading? I usually like that kind of thing, but I'm a bit bleary eyed these days from a baby waking to nurse too often at night. If its really heavy, I might not understand what I'm reading as the brain cells are not functioning well right now. 
I guess what I am in the mood for is something that is encouraging and uplifting, but I can read an article in 15 minutes or so and then get back to my day.

I used to love Country Living until recently when the feature articles were about same "you-know" couples and their homes complete with their kids' bedroom and all. It made me sad since I enjoyed that magazine. I think they have an agenda to mainstream that type of lifestyle since the next article could be about a family with four kids.
I don't know if that element was always there, and I just missed it, but the last two months have had it. So, anyway, I don't recommend that one, and actually it opened my eyes to to realize that even in choosing a magazine we have to be careful what we bring into our homes.

No, it's not heavy reading at all - I actually find it just right for when I am feeling a little bleary eyed. Canticle just has more text and more articles on saints and scripture and things like that while Faith & Family has more pictures, recipes, crafts, etc.

I know this isn't about mags, but we used to allow our kids to watch Food Network and the Home and Garden network occasionally when we had satellite tv. It seemed like these were "safe" when we needed to keep them occupied for awhile. But about a year ago, we noticed that it seemed like there were always male couples shopping for houses or needing redecorating, and the commercials moved from Palmolive and Huggies to much more distasteful stuff. Seems its permeating everything now.

Very true! I love Faith and Family! And I think it's good to support magazines like this that are wonderful for our Catholic families as much as possible.
