Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would love to hear from others that have gone through the healing process from childhood abuse-and stopped the cycle with your own dc.

In my case, it was physical, verbal, and continues to be emotional.

Has anyone read a great book-pop psychology, or spiritual -that really helped? (I am a bookie-and get a lot out of snuggling up with a good read.)

Feel free to PM me.

Thank you!!

Bella,
Bad Childhood, Good Life is a good start and Amazon has it at a great price.

You have my heartfelt prayers. You can stop the cycle. Lots of people who were abused as children grow up to be especially good parents because they are so determined to give their children what they never had: unconditional love and security.

Prayers for Healing the Family Tree can be very consoling and help bring grace to difficult situations within the family : http://www.scborromeo.org/prayers/familytree.htm

The book "Boundaries" is helpful for establishing healthy limits in family relationships and also discerning the difference between forgiving those who have wounded, but helping them, and ourselves, by creating appropriate boundaries in our relationships, to guard against continued abuse.

I agree with Elizabeth...the desire to give your own children the love and security you may not have received can be wonderful inspiration for ending abusive cycles within your own family.

St. Germain Cousin is a beautiful patroness for victims of abuse. May she intercede for your continued healing and help bring healthy relationships within your family.

Elizabeth, thank you for the link. I will see if our library has a copy.

I do think that most of my parenting choices/style come from the fact that I want to raise our dc in a completely opposite way that I was brought up. Attachment parenting, no spanking, gentle discipline and homeschooling. Somehow though, as our dc grow older, I feel less confident-almost like I need an instructional manual to make sure I don't inflict shame,be too critical,etc.. I also second guess my decisions regarding our dc...like maybe I am too over protective because of my past. I certainly don't want to smother our dc-I want them to experience healthy boundaries and emotional interactions.

Servant-Ithank you! I almost checked _Boundaries_ out from our library last year-I will get it asap.

I didn't know about St. Germain Cousin-thank you.
