ETA: Original post deleted. I'm sorry if anyone was offended by the post about our 2nd mortgage. My intention in posting was to let others know that banks are willing to work with people, but it may require many contacts. My husband and I want to (and intend to) pay our debts in full, we just needed a lower interest rate.

Melanie - I think there's nothing in the world wrong with pursuing a lower interest rate, and I'm thrilled that you have. I know right now you and your husband can use every bit of leverage and help you can get!!! Good for you for looking at squeezing assistance for your budget out of every corner!

I never saw your original post, but wanted to let you know that refinancing was the ONLY way we could afford to dig up our basement foundation and make it a dry one.

That was in Feb, and wouldn't you know that March has brought record flooding to our area, and our basement is bone dry- for the first time in a few years. whew!
I am grateful that things are working for you.
