Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just foud out that the awesome bakery near my house (where I can get authentic NY/NJ Black & White Cookies) is doing King's Cakes for Mardi Gras.

I am excited. And needed to share.

Anyone else doing anything fun for Tuesday?

I get together with one other family and we have a very fat tuesday lunch with the kids. This year, they are coming here and we will make masks and have a little parade. Lots of fun.

God Bless

When I was a young teen we lived in the suburbs of New Orleans. I so miss the excitement of the parades and parties leading up to Mardi Gras! It's hard to recapture that anyplace else in the country.

I have tried to make king cakes in the past, but they've never been as good as the bakery ones we used to get. Your post makes me nostalgic for those days!

My husband and I grew up not too far from New Orleans and have spent a good deal of time there. My husband found a wonderful King Cake recipe this year that is delicious. It can be found here:

We're just doing yummy dinner. My husband is going to make us french toast-- a slight variation on pancakes! :)

Someone recommended this quick and easy recipe:

Emeril's Quick King Cake Recipe #151532 using crescent rolls.

I think I figured out why pancakes and fried doughnut type foods are popular on Carnivale/Mardi Gras/Shrove Tuesday/Fat Tuesday . You just don't have them hanging around the next day, Ash Wednesday, calling and tempting you while you are fasting and abstaining.
