Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you have a friend/family member that is Jewish or non-believer do you still send them a religious themed Christmas card? I am not so worried about my non-believer siblings they were Christian at one time .

But what about friends? Do you send them different cards? My biggest concern is for our Jewish friends, they do not send us a card with a Menorah on it, so should I send them a card with a picture of Bethlehem.

What do you do?

hmm I guess it's how you think of Christmas cards.. do you buy the card for the recipient like say.. a birthday card.. or do you buy the cards to reflect your family. If it's the later, then it doesn't matter what anyone else is or isn't. If the first, then yes, you should adjust.

Could you ask, say I'd like to give you this but don't want to offend?

I would not.

I have several Jewish friends and I do not think they would be offended, and if I asked them I am sure they would say no that they are just happy to hear from me, but I just do not.

Typically I make a picture card of our family and then personalize each message for the person/family. A few times I have sent out a generic Happy Holidays card and once I even sent out New Years cards. This year I sent out a purple Advent card wishing everyone a happy holiday season. I have never done religious themed cards because we have friends from so many backgrounds, I like to send pictures, and the cards I really like are so expensive. But I do love getting beautiful cards and do not get many anymore since so many people do what I do and send picture cards.

If you have the time, it may be nice to send out individual cards to your friends who do not celebrate wishing them a happy season or happy new year.

I saw one card/form letter once which had a beautiful nativity scene and the inside said something like, "While we celebrate Christmas we recognize the many various backgrounds of our friends and we wish your family the best...." You could write something like this inside of your card.

I have a box of "Have a blessed holiday season and peaceful New Year" type cards that I send to our few conservative Jewish or seriously atheist (there is only one of those) friends/acquaintances. The box lasts me a few years. I include the same photo and letter that I include with all our Christmas cards.

Yes, we always send a Christmas-themed card.

I have several Jewish friends, and I do send a Nativity Card to them. They are not offended. And, I am not at all offended when they send me a Hannakah card.

I think that I would since I am sending the greeting and we celebrate Christmas, so it is a Christmas greeting to whomever I am sending it. Does that sound like circular reasoning?

I do have a brother that does not believe in God; however, I still send him a religious card. He does not seem to mind. I used to send more generic Happy Holidays type greeting, but now it is definitely religious.

And I don't think I would be offended if I received a card with a Hannakah greeting. After all, if that is how they celebrate the season then it makes sense that it would be that greeting. I hope this makes sense.

I have a Jewish friend, and she does not mind getting Christmas cards. I think she even goes a step further and sends out holiday cards to her non- Jewish friends. She said she realizes we celebrate different things, it's the greeting that counts.

You could always hand write Happy Hanukkah to her in the card.

Oh, I haven't even purchased my cards yet--they will definitely be late this year.

I know of a priest who sends "First Day" cards on March 25th. If you waited, would that make you a year late, or 9 months early?

No, I don't.

I can speak from being on the other side of the fence.....

It is *your* holiday you are celebrating-not theirs. I compare it to my birthday. *I* am the one to receive cards on my birthday-I don't give out the cards.

Kind of the "When in Rome, do as the Romans..."well,same for greeting cards.

A Happy New Year card, sure. If Jewish-Happy Hannukah(sp?), sure., though it isn't a major Jewish holiday.

My dad is Hindu, and he has been very clear, that I can save my stamp and efforts. He would rather receive a Happy New Year.

JMHO.

The more I thought about it, I realized I am not so concerned with my Jewish or non-believing friends but my Hindu and Buddhist neighbors. I think I will make them just a generic card, they were really good to us while dh was away. I know they celebrate a secular Christmas with a tree and presents. Or I'll see if I can find a Happy New Year something.

I send religious Christmas cards to everyone. No exceptions. I get annoyed with all the political correctness that surfaces around Christmastime. So everyone gets a big MERRY CHRISTMAS from us.

Ladies,I am sorry,if I didn't come across with a charitable approach.

When I joined the church 5 yrs ago, I lost family and friends left and right. I know that hurt still comes through, when answering/talking about, this topic.

No. I send my Jewish friends a Hanukkak card, and I send our non-christian and non-religious friends and relatives a Season's Greetings-type card.

Of course, I don't always pick out a nativity card for my main card either. I am a sucker for mice, and if I see a mouse-themed cutsey one first, chances are I will get that (or get that also - I have sent out both a religious and cute one before at the same time... ).
