My husband seems to have the whispers of coworkers in his ear he may be too old for more children.
Yes, we know about the biological clock in women, but I need to hear about the love of your life.
Would you please share how old your hubby was when you had your youngest child? or if your blessed to be pregnant, how old will he be?
(He asked so I may end up sharing this thread with him.)
Thank you SO very much.

More info, but just so you know, we've had this discussion and he finally shared the truth about his apprehension to have more children. It's more than age...more than anything else it's what happened the last time I went through the c-section with Teresa. He is very very concerned about what could happen.
...but, I'm intersted in your dh's age at your last child right now. TIA

My husband was 42 when we had our last, and he is as sad about the fact that she is definitely the last as I am.

My husband is going through the same thing, he mentions that he is 40 so keeps saying that Ignatius is the last, but the real reason is because I hemorrhaged this time. It is so scary for them.
A dear irl friend's husband at 40 also says no more. I think it is an age thing for men, they are conscious of aging at 40 or something. However all our friends still keep having children after 40. Let's see one friend was 47 and her husband 57 when they were so wonderfully blessed. Another friend's husband is a few years older than her approaching 50 when they had their last. All of our closest friends are now in their early 40s and I'm sure will be happy for more if God blesses them so. And my sister and her husband are about to have their first and her husband will be 46!

My husband was 45 when we had a first child (14 years ago) and he was 58 at the beginning of the year when Annuncia arrived. We are both open to the thought of another blessing.
I think there is truth in the saying, "Life begins at 40!"

DH is 47 today and I'll be 41 in 3 weeks. :)
We've talked about him being 68 by the time the coming baby will be an adult -- so we've been talking to the other kids too about the roles they may have to play for when this sibling is going through the teen years. they will have to be REALLY good examples and help out mom and dad with the parenting communication, teen angst that may happen, etc.

I think it's a shame that society puts such stress on age for parentage ... I know it will be hard for dh and I when JP is in high school and we'll be way older than many of his contemps' parents ... but so? As long as we're all healthy, and doing what God wants that's what's important.
People are living so much longer now (and much healthier) that the old stereotype of problem pregnancies and birth-defects coming from over-40 women just isn't so true anymore. I was never healthier during a pregnancy than at 41 having JP!
I also think it's easier if you have many kids and then have one when you're older because as Stef points out they need to be role models for the younger. We have good friends here whose oldest is 22 and youngest is 4 ... the 6 older are all boys and the 4 yo is the lone girl. The boys are so good with her and are teaching her how to be a lady around the men. SHE is teaching them how to be gentlemen! (most of the time, anyway )

Well, we are still pretty young, but I know of many families around here that have children into their late 40's, some dad's into their 50's and they all think it's grand! (as do I!!) I get really aggrevated by those that intentionally stop having children in their 30's, only to have 'fur babies' ( ) in their late 40's!!!!

Okay, I have to ask, what in the world are "fur babies"?

My husband was 43 when Sarah was born. If she'd been on time instead of early, he would have been 44. His father just turned 85, so he was a week shy of 41 when Mike was born. He's still very much a treasured and active part of our lives.

Fur babies are pets. Pets with the status of children. Realllllly spoiled children. Surely you have seen this phenomenon? It is so disturbing to me ...
Oh, and my husband was 42 when Noel was born. He is very iffy on more babies, but that's mostly because of the very real dangers involved with me getting pregnant, with a little of the "I'm too old for this" thrown in there, too. We have talked about adopting a toddler or young child when the boys are a bit older, though.

DH was 30 (I was 33) when we had our first, and he was 37 (I was 40) when we had our fourth. DH feels fairly strongly that I am too old for more (sadly, he may be right), but I would gladly have more babies. I am 43 and DH is 40.

My dad still had four kids under 18 when he became eligible for social security!! I think he was a much better Dad with the younger ones than he was with the older ones. More relaxed, more in tune with all the teen stuff because he didn't get stressed out by the little things. My mom had four in her forties, I never thought of them as old parents because they kept themselves in good shape and were always involved. Much of it was their attitude.

DH was 41 when Sam was born nearly two years ago. I'm 39, and would love to have more, but given our miscarriage problem, we both know that we very well may need to just be grateful for the three we have. 8 years ago I never thought I would have three kids...so I guess that's something!

I agree My husband would love more and he is 40 (so am I for a few more weeks!). Of course now that I am still in the throes of hyperemesis at week 16 I just look at him like he is crazy when he mentions all the future children!!

One of my older brothers had his first child two years ago at 44. My oldest brother just had his first in October, he is 49.
