Every year I try to buy our extended relatives a food gift made by some Catholic company. Since I really don't know what they need, a consumable gift like food has always been a hit.
I thought it would be fun to list these companies. The only three I can think of now are:
Strawberry Hill Povitica This is delicious povitica bread. IMO, English walnut is the best flavor of the ones I've tried. These are not cheap, but are extremely dense 2lb loaves.
Mystic Monk Coffee We like their Guatamalan Organic, but they have all sorts of flavors. Several monks are currently here in Nebraska studying at our seminary. We just love their coffee and get it delivered regularly as our sole source of coffee. Last year they did a great timely job of sending gifts to our family members nationwide. However, perhaps order early as they might be sort of short-staffed with the monks away at the seminary.
Trappist fruitcake, fudge, and cheese This is the best fudge! We have only tasted the chocolate fudge (not the non-chocolate). I've never tried the fruitcake but it looks like it would be awesome for those who like fruitcake. They do a nice job!
Do you have any Catholic religious orders or companies who are trying to make a living that we could support for Christmas?

How about Blessed Beans Coffee? We have them roasted for us - and we're Catholic.
Blessed Beans Coffees
Blessed Beans Coffees are specially roasted and packaged for us. A portion of the proceeds are given to One Family Foundation (www.onefamilyfoundation.org), and a portion goes to support Renaissance Farm's (renaissance-farms.com) efforts to feed the hungry in the Dioceses of Worcester, Massachusetts and Hartford, Connecticut.
A great excuse to feed your caffeine addiction, no? Oh, and here's something novel - they come in ONE POUND BAGS - not the 12oz. Remember when you bought a pound of coffee and actually got 16oz.?
All coffees are fair trade; organic coffees are marked. We buy whole bean only at this time. All varieties are $7/lb plus shipping. Normally $9.95-$12.95/lb retail.
Trinity - Medium roast, hard bean grown at high attitudes has fine acidity, full body and vibrant flavor, which give it a distinctive character - well balanced and sweetly smooth. Grown in the Tres Rios region, thus the name.
Friar Galvao - Named for Brasil's only native-born saint, these beans are grown high atop the hills of the Santos region. The careful cultivation of Santos seeds and the harvesting of their beans have remained virtually unchanged for generations. These beauties' have a strong flavor and medium body.
St. Gall Abbey - Named for the ancient Benedictine Abbey - in modern day Switzerland - known for it's industry and it's medieval hospital. The monks needed a pretty strong morning cup to accomplish all that they did! The highest quality hard beans are used for our French roast. They are slow roasted until the oils just start to appear on the beans which develops the darkest, richest flavor possible.
Mary Martha - Named for the famed hospitality of the sisters of Lazarus, this coffee has large beans, consistently good taste, medium body, full aroma, and medium acidity. A good 'daily' coffee. This coffee many will make you abandon stale, mass-produced store-bought grounds.
El Viejo Organic - Named for a 16th century vision of The Immaculate Conception in a small village in the western part of Nicaragua, this is a very clean and bright coffee with a nice full body to finish. It will give some Kona coffees a run for their money!
Juan Diego Organic - Named for the hermit Saint of Mexico and visionary of Our Lady of Guadalupe. It is said that roses fell from his cloak, which was imprinted with Our Lady's image. This coffee has a medium-bodied, very clean flavour with acidity reminiscent of dry white wines. Juan Diego has a nuttiness, followed by a slightly woody finish.
Flavoured Coffees
Ampleforth - Flavoured with ripe hazelnuts - delicious! Named for the beautiful Abbey that is the seat of the English Congregation of Benedictines.
Monte Cassino - Rich chocolate flavoured coffee. Named for the original monastery founded by St. Benedict.
Chartres - A rich, smooth creamy vanilla flavoured coffee. Named for the famed Cathedral in France.
Cill Dara - A fine Irish cream flavoured coffee. Named after the place where St. Brigid founded her monastery - she was an Irish dairy woman, so it MUST be good!

You can get it on the Hearth and Home Co-op. A portion of the proceeds go to One Family Foundation, and part of it helps us to grow food to give to local church-run food pantries and shelters.

Okay, I am one of the few people around who LOVES good fruitcake; I'm not amused by all the Christmas fruitcake jokes.  The super-by-far-best fruitcake I've ever had is the one from Gethsemane Abbey in Kentucky. It costs a pretty penny, but when you think of all the luscious and not cheap ingredients, it's worth every one of those pennies.
I love that in this day of internet communication we can help support religious houses so easily with online shopping.

Me too! I adore fruitcake. I always suggest to folks that claim that they don't like it to toast it and slather on some butter or cream cheese. OH so good.

Nancy, I'm with you -- I love fruitcake! And the Gethsemane one is great but I had to resort to making my own so I could get the taste I favor -- lots of fruit, whiskey soaked and dense!

We visited this place on our vacation back in September -they are a wonderful order of very holy, jovial monks. Their jams, breads, and sweets are delicious! (we sampled MANY!) We were so blessed, as the monk behind the counter was a bit taken with our big brood and we talked for a long time. We were also blessed to have a personal tour of their skete by one of the founder fathers.

I know I've heard of a monastery that sells wine, but I don't know where and I don't know to whom. I think they might just make communion wine, but you could send some to a church in the name of a friend or family member.
