Please don't laugh. I'm graying - a lot after having Katie. I'm naturally a sort of medium non-descript brown so it really shows up. It didn't bother me at first, but now, it's starting to. I don't want anything high maintenance - I'm just not that kind of girl. I'd like a color wash - something that doesn't harm the hair really. I just want something the same color as my natural hair color.
I've had a bottle of Clairol semi-permanent hair color sitting on my bathroom counter for over a month staring at me and taunting me. I'm intimidated. What if my hair comes out green or some awful strikingly different color?
Does anyone do this at home? Successfully? Can I do this? Should I do this? Will you come to my house and eat chocolate with me before and after and tell me my hair looks natural - a color found in nature?

If you offer chocolate for me, Jennifer, I'll come and say anything you want!
Seriously, though, in my experience semi-permanent doesn't really cover gray. My grays are extremely stubborn and I had to switch to permanent coloring. And that's my one luxury, as I get my hair professionally done, but I have a stylist that works out of her home, which is so nice.
I found my grays made me look haggard and worn, and I need all the help I can get to not look like that!

Oh I would come over in a heartbeat! I wish you were closer!
I don't do my hair myself, although my haircut lady comes to my home to help me with haircuts/color. If you have bought something that washes out (it should say how many washes) it will wash out the green if it should happen - not that it will. I'm sure it will turn out great. Maybe you can try a section under the hair, where nobody will see? Good luck!

I guess I'll fess up.....I use hair color and I have for at least 3 or 4 years.
Truly, I have a love/hate relationship with the stuff. I have dark brown hair, and when the coloring wears off (after about 6 or 7 weeks) I can really tell. To be honest, I'm not sure what my actual hair color is anymore . I've tried some different colors (Nice'n'Easy), and I've made some mistakes as far as color goes. But I've never been green . All my mistakes were subtle, and no one notices but me (and my hubby, if I force him to be honest).
This might sound silly, too, but I always feel better, younger, fresher, right after I color. The conditioner that comes with the HC makes my hair feel really soft, too.
I think my hair is darker now, than before HC, because I have "stubborn grays" and so I purposely choose a darker color. And I always have to go way past the time, though I don't recommend doing that because they say it can damage the hair.
Tips: Do the strand test and the skin test. Make sure you wear old clothes and don't stand above carpet when you apply. I usually drape a towel over my shoulders, too and clip it in the front with a hairclip. Do it at a time when someone else can watch your children. For me, it becomes a little retreat. I hang out in the bathroom, reading a book . HC is too messy and too smelly to roam around the house while you wait for the timer.
It's a little bit of a pain to apply......harder, the longer your hair is. But for me, it's been so worth it.
As far as the chocolate goes, sounds good. I wonder if I can get from VA to Alabama during my son's nap this afternoon?

Jennifer,
I'll come for anything chocolate! I need to do something about my grays too. We should have a chocolate hair coloring party! Too bad we are about a thousand miles apart. :(
No advice here, but I do sympathize. I can't seem to be able to make myself do anything about the grays. I keep trying to tell my husband they are blond--not gray. It doesn't work. :(
Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

I am a medium brown (or so I thought) but when I peruse the hairculor aisle, and try to match my hair up to the boxes, my hair comes up as light brown?
I just bought on clearance about a month ago a two-pack of Garnier (sp?) Nutrisse Medium Golden Brown 53, but dh thinks it will be too dark.
I am gray in my bangs area, and the sides of my temples, like if I want to pull my hair back in a pony tail or half up, the sides really show gray.
sigh.
I just wear my hair down alot more now.
I'm 37.
My hair is getty wiry, the grays stick straight up or are stragely kinked, even though my hair is fairly straight...
Jen, if you take the plunge, I will!!
