Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just musing here- my mother recently shocked me by telling me who she voted for in the election.

We had a long discussion, and her bottom line was this: America needs help.
All the pro-life talk is great, she said, but she sadly pointed out that not one pro-life candidate she has ever voted for has done anything of particular note to promote life after the election. The talk fades. Roe vs Wade has yet to be overturned.

When she adopted my brother in the early 70s, she filled out the application and then brought my brother home 8 WEEKS later. 8 weeks- start to finish- for the adoption.

My mother is angry at the pro-life candidates who make promises and then do nothing.

I don't agree with her voting choice, but I have to admit she is making an excellent point. Will anything change after this election? Am I being duped?

I don't expect much change after the election if the pro-life candidate is elected - I really don't. But I expect big scary changes if not.

And either way, we have to vote with a Catholic conscience. Abortion is evil, always always always.

Coming in with my Moderator Hat here, these topics can go down hill very quickly.

This thread had some good ideas, Respect Life

Mary Chris,
I would like to answer this. Just delete me if you need to!

I would say that the pro-life movement in this country has made steady, albeit slow, gains in protecting the unborn. Depending on the state, there are laws limiting how late in a pregnancy a child can be aborted, laws requiring waiting periods, information for the mother, parental notification, and so on.

**Moderator's Note**

Our policy regarding political posting on the 4Real boards is as follows:

Quote:
In light of the upcoming elections, the moderators of the 4Real boards request that all members limit their discussions here to those that are a call to prayer or fasting or a quoted statement from a Bishop. Any discussion of a political nature endorsing or condemning any candidate does not have a place here. We are so grateful for the understanding and support of the members of this board on this subject. It is not our goal to limit discussion, but rather to protect these boards from divisiveness and remain faithful to the original mission of the 4Real boards.

Thank you all for understanding.

I hope I'm not violating board policy, but I would respectfully like to invite anyone who would like to discuss the election openly to do so here, at my blog.

It can be frustrating to remain silent about candidates and issues when so much is at stake, but I know that many people are uncomfortable visiting the openly political blogs and websites where vituperation and mud-slinging in the comment boxes are the order of the day. So please feel free to join the conversation at the link above, and to discuss your vote, the voting experience today, or anything else that is on your mind relating to today's election.

God bless!
