Help.....I need a new email by the end of the month......hopefully sooner.

It looks like I may have finally found a way to have semi-high speed internet here (have had dial-up for over 11.5 years)........so, my old ISP will be out.

I do not like change........while I like the idea of a faster connection..........I LOVE my outlook express! I do not want to change it!

Please tell me what free email you use, and why you like it? And, about any you do NOT like, and why?

Also, is there any free email service that allows me to use my Outlook Express?

Thanks for you help!

I really like Gmail.

It hooks to Google reader and so makes it way easy to read my blogs. It hooks to blogger, making it way easy to access that. It works with Outlook express, too. Plus, then you have access to Google Docs, and Google Calendar.

yep or if you like the name better(or you can get the name you want) you can also get free email through Catholic Exchange ( suchnso@catholicexchange.com) that is powered by gmail

both of those will let you down load to outlook express..

if you'd like I can send you a gmail invite.. do you still need that? anyway.. be happy to send one.. I'm sure with all the emails we have there we've got plenty to share

Chari, as Jodie said, you can use a number of free email accounts with Outlook Express (and with Outlook too). Some don't work with OE/Outlook at all, some providers charge a fee to use their services OE/Outlook (Yahoo is one).

If you use AOL's free email (AIM.com, I think), I think there are no tagline ads attached when using Outlook but using the web-based there is one-line text ad for AOL at the bottom. I can't remember about other free email providers, but I had done a bit of research on the Outlook compatibility and ads in relation to free email providers earlier this year to set up a group email account, and I had selected AIM for that group.

I love Gmail. And, fwiw, I had Catholic Exchange for a long time, my first free email. It was fine for a while, but very high maintenance - like if I didn't check my email VERY often, the messages would become scrambled inside one another. Then every time they "improved/updated" their software, the trashy (if you know what I mean    ) email just increased. I just couldn't take it anymore. I dropped the account because mananging the 'garbage' was too much for me. God bless 'em, I know they were working hard at making it a good service, but .... it just wasnt' working.

I finally went to Gmail and have been very happy. Lots of nice features.

Just my .02

my dh has a hotmail account.. I wouldn't use it.. very poor spam filter and ALOT comes through it. my dh finally had to restrict it to only those in his address book being able to send email to that addy.

I have msn.com and gmail. For a while msn was not wanting to cooperate with my Mac, so I got a gmail. I like the calendar feature on gmail, it is nice that Jim can log into the account and see what is going on in our lives. Also the photos, I can upload to there and Jim can check them out.

I don't get too much junk on msn, we must have a filter. I had been getting some lately for that little blue pill, but they seem to have stopped.

Oh I thought I should mention, I have no idea about Outlook Express, so I can't compare them.

with which email?

for instance.. gmail.. you go to the online gmail account and

go to settings
forwarding and POP/IMAP
    click "enable POP"
click what you want gmail to do with the online copy (archive, delete, leave in inbox)
and click on "configuration instructions" then click on "outlook express" link and "getting started" tab and it will walk you through the wizard for setting it up in outlook express.

It sounds way more complicated than it really is.

basically it's just setting up an account in outlook express but you need some info from gmail to do it.. and it only takes a few minutes to do really.

I love G-mail.

Some filters automatically reject hotmail email because there are so many spammers using it.

That's about all I know ....

Hate hotmail. LOTS AND LOTS of spam. I only use it when I buy stuff so if my email address gets sold all the spam can go to the same place.

Chari, even if you wanted to use Hotmail, you wouldn't be able to use it with OE or Outlook. Hotmail changed its policy a few years ago that they would only allow use of those programs with accounts already set up and active with those mail programs.

For me, this meant a junk mail account I set up for dealing with certain types of email (e.g., Freecycle) would no longer work because I hadn't kept that account active (hadn't logged into it within a 90-day period). Such accounts can still be reactivated, and new accounts can be created, but they will not work with OE/Outlook, except, perhaps, at a cost.

When I was researching the different free email providers earlier this year, I did not choose Gmail because those emails did not reach all the intended recipients. They were autofiltered by some email providers. I forget all of them, but Hotmail was definitely one of them as well as at least one other popular email provider out there. That's why I went with AOL's free email (AIM.com, I think). In my testing, the emails got to all the major providers, it worked with Outlook/OE, and it did not have offensive ads (and no ads whatsoever in my experience of using it through Outlook).
