Gracie's 7th birthday is at the end of the month, and all she wants is a digital camera,(so she can blog like Mom )
Does anyone have any experiences they can share? Fisher Price???? VTech????
Money is really too tight for this right now, but it is all she wants, and we will pool money with her full-time working siblings..... but still, what are your ideas?

My ds got the Vtech last year for Xmas. It has been a great camera for him and he's had a lot of fun with it. It's been pretty sturdy, also. I'm not sure how well the pictures would transfer to a blog, though. They are not the highest resolution.

I am NOT an expert by any means, but I have shyed (sp?!) away from kids digital cameras. They have very low resolution, and don't seem to cost that much less than a lower priced "adult" camera. Of course, they are supposed to be more durable..
Anyway, we have a used 1 megapixel camera that our kids use (actually our only digital) and it works great. People are spoiled now with so much more resolution, but 1MP is really nice.
So.. I would probably ask around and see if anyone I knew had upgraded their digital and had a spare for me!
Here is an example of a decent camera for under $100...

My parents got our son a Kodak EasyShare for his birthday last year. It has been great for him. They played with it in the store and made sure that the basic functions were simple and didn't require scrolling through menus. (It has menus, but not for the stuff a 7-year-old wants to do.) It is great quality - we all use it more now than our old camera. And, we've even dropped it a few times, and it is okay. Even so, I recommend that you do what we did and buy a neck strap for it. It only came with a wrist loop, but we got a neck strap and ds is always careful to put it on before using it.
If you have more little ones that the camera will be passed down to, the kid cameras might be a better option, but if it is something that your daughter will keep as her camera as she gets older, then I think a "real" camera is a better investment.

I hope I'm not too late to jump into the recommendations, Joann. I'm seconding Tracy's suggestion of the Kodak Easy Share. Our dd really wanted a camera for Christmas. She was asking for a cheap $30 version in a catalog. We did a little research and while we didn't want to fork over a fortune, we didn't want her to be discouraged by a lack of picture quality, or a frustrating lack of options. She really enjoys photographing nature and action shots. We chose the Kodak Easy Share for her and have not been disappointed! It is a camera that will grow with her. I would suggest an additional memory card if you consider this camera.
If you think it would be too much for your 7yo right now, file it away for the future. Maybe Craigslist in your area has some good Fisher Price cameras. Or, is there a children's clothing consignment shop around you? Ours seems always to have one of the Fisher Price cameras in the store. Good luck shopping. Praying you can find a nice bargain!
