Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have had the same bed forever. I have problems in my back and shoulders. We thought the bed could be making it worse.Several years ago we bought one of those Tempapeudic (sp?) mattress toppers. It helped for a while but for the last year or so, my back and shoulders are really bad. I know it is not only the bed, but I am thinking we need to get a different kind of bed. So, what kind of bed do you sleep on? what sold you on it? If you have back problems, does your bed help?

We have a Sealy hotel quality mattress that has lasted well for over 10 years. It doesn't seem any less firm than when we purchased it. I find when I'm having shoulder problems it is related to my pillow. I switch to a firmer one (I usually use a down pillow) and sleep with my whole head and shoulders on it. Good luck!

We bought one of those Temperpedic (sp?too!) mattresses, too, and it felt good during the 90 day period where we could still return it, but slowly afterwards it did not feel as good. I feel badly as we spent a lot on it ($2000) thinking it would be the answer to our aches and pains. That was about 4 years ago. I have tried out the sleep number ones in a store a year or so ago and it did feel really good, but again, what will really last? We have been married 23 years and we are on our 4th as I have had a lot of back problems and have never really found one that helps. I keep a recliner next to my bed now and sometimes move to that during the night when I am aching. Not the greatest solution but it does help some! I keep one of those Homedic heated/vibrating chair pads in it for more relief when I need it.

OK, this is just my opinion but.. it could be the bed FRAME.. our mattress is old and we've been wanting to replace it for several years but because the mattress/boxspring is set directly on the floor the whole mattress is supported and you get WAY LESS sag. (my poor beatup mattress laying on the floor has less sag than my ILs new mattress on the frame) What we want to replace it with is a thick foam mattress and a platform to put it on. I've seen a lot of the "platforms" are slats and I think I'd rather have it solid (dh thinks he could make it) I don't care much for the memory foam but you can get a traditional foam mattress that is supposed to be very good at support.

here's a couple places online that I've looked at that could give you a better idea what I mean.

I've had several types of mattresses over the years, and my neck and back always hurt. I know sleep with a special neck pillow. It looks like a dog bone but is much cheaper than buying a new mattress every few years.

We've had a tempurpedic for 5 years now (the 10 inch mattress) and we still like it. I haven't noticed it deteriorate in quality or anything. I do find a pillow makes a difference in my neck and shoulders. I'm not saying we never have back pain, but we definitely have more issues and notice a difference when traveling away from home. We toss and turn more on other mattresses whereas on our tempurpedic, we will often fall asleep and wake up in the same position!

We also co-sleep, and I find it really good in that respect since it doesn't transfer motion-I can sneak out of bed without the baby being jossled or the two year old can thrash around without my feeling it at all.

I know a lot of people really like the sleep mattress--especially couples who have different mattress needs since both sides can be adjusted.

We have had a Sleep Number mattress for about 4 years now. I can't tell you what a difference it has made for me! I have scoliosis, and my back/neck have always been stiff. Once we got this mattress and I figured out what my number is (35) I have had the most comfortable sleeping situation. I can definitely tell when we travel because I don't sleep as well on other mattresses.

And the nice thing is is that you can change the firmness/softness easily if something changes in your life - ie. pregnancy, nursing, injury, etc.

Can you tell I like my mattress? HTH

We have a Sleep Number mattress too! We've had it for about 4 years and my number is 35 as well. Small world?
Anyway, I really like the Sleep Number mattress and it really has helped my back pain, too. When pregnant, I adjust to a different firmness depending on my needs at the time. Also, dh can have his mattress at the firmness he likes, which can be different than mine, no problem. We both sleep better. Oh, and when one of us moves on the mattress, the other doesn't really notice as much, since each of us is technically on a different mattress. It really is nice.
On our recent vacation, I slept on an air mattress rather than the hotel bed because I just don't sleep well on hotel beds. The air mattress was like my bed at home and I slept wonderfully.

God bless,
Christine

That is good to know. Our mattress topper is Temp. and it has deteriorated. It seems that we have to flip it over more frequently now. I was wondering if the same thing would happen to a mattress.

Did it take you a while to adjust to it? We slept on one at my in-laws and I didn't find it that comfortable. It seemed too firm. But I don't know if it is a matter of getting used to it. My in-laws swear by it.

This is the one I would like to get. We tried it once about 7 or 8 years ago but ended up returning because my dh didn't like it. His problem was that he was able to feel the dividing board between the two air chambers. He felt he was sleeping in a confined space. I think that would be solved with a pillow top. Can you feel the divider in between the chambers in yours?

I don't feel the divider, but we also have the one with a pillowtop (either the 4000 or 5000 although I think it's probably the 4000). When I roll over to my dh's side of the bed I can tell a difference b/c he is at a 50, but I don't "feel" anything between the mattresses.

Thanks Cindy! That is what I wanted to know. We might give this a second chance.
