Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

<sigh> We're still house-hunting... I feel like we've been at this for eternity. It's only been 4 years.

Right now we're looking at this area of NY. It fits many of our criteria, and we've found several likely homes/farms. Looks as though culture abounds (thank goodness).

I need to find out what homeschooling groups there are in the area. I'm looking online, but thought I'd ask here as well to scare up anything that might not be advertised online. Is the homeschooling community large or small? Particular towns/counties that are more homeschool friendly?

Blessings,

Well, that would be where I am, and that would be our Catholic homeschooling group! We actually are about 35 minutes east of Cooperstown... about an hour away from Albany. (I am not sure I would say that "culture abounds" in our area, but if you are in Cooperstown you will have more culture than we do way out here. We love the art museum and the Farmer's museum.)

Homeschoolers do not seem to be well organized here. The Catholic homeschooling group we belong to is the only one in the area (at least I am pretty sure there is not one in Oneonta), and it is out of Albany. It takes in people in a HUGE area. I think there is one family in Oneonta, and then there is us, and a few other families in our county. (Who are all very nice people, btw.) The only other organized homeschoolers I have been able to find belong to LEAH -- the evangelical Christian state homeschool group of New York. There are a few chapters in the area, and a co-op we attended one year in Cooperstown. But -- LEAH chapters usually require a statement of faith which Catholics cannot sign. We wiggled around it that one year -- we had just moved here and were unable to find any other homeschoolers -- but I didn't think we would be able to get around it the next year. I do know some people who have modified the statement of faith until they could sign it, though.

I'm not sure the Catholic group is advertised... it didn't used to be. I'll PM you with the information!
