Anyone live down that way? I am wondering about Catholic churches in the Wytheville and Blacksburg areas. How is it to homeschool there? We have homeschooled in Va before, but not in this area. Are there any natural food stores? I need my organic chicken and produce--if I can get it.
Dh is looking at going for a job there but it is REALLY rural(and pretty), which we love but....we hoped to have a decent sized city within 20 minutes or so....

We don't live down there, but I'm familiar with the area there and farther south (dh's family is all down there, college, friends still in the area, etc.). I know St. Mary Mother of God is in Wytheville. Blacksburg also has a St. Mary's, according to an google search I just did. There's also St. Jude in Radford, Holy Spirit in Christiansburg, and Holy Family in Pearisburg. Then there's Roanoke, with St. Gerard's, Our Lady of Nazareth, and St. Andrew's.
If you're going south of Wytheville, Marion has St. John's, and Abingdon has Christ the King. The last time we were down there those two parishes were sharing a priest, but that was a year ago so things may have changed.
I'm guessing it won't be too hard to find organic meat and produce down there, considering the number of farms. OTOH, Catholic homeschoolers may be harder to come by. I think I remember hearing of a group closer to Abingdon, but that may have been part of a tri-cities group (Bristol, Kingsport, Johnson City TN).
I'm sorry I don't have any more info for you! We love that area and have talked about moving down there many times. The cost of living is low, people are *so* nice, and it is absolutely beautiful. Maybe if dh knew there were other like-minded families in the area... Please keep us posted, and feel free to pm me!

Thank you, Wendy. I didn't even think of looking in that direction. I might pm you at a later date.

You're welcome. If you have some flexibility about where you live down there, my vote would be near Abingdon. It is a *beautiful* town with lots going on, and you're close enough to Bristol for the decent-size city stuff...
