Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Charlotte. I know I have been posting as Matilda for some time now because that was my blog id, but I finally decided to make the change and use my real name. I hope you don't mind.

And I hope this makes it easier for those few people who knew me by both names and if it doesn't... don't worry, I'll answer to either!

Affectionately yours,

Charlotte .... you are too funny! I think I'll always "see" you as Matilda, but will be delighted to call you by your given name....

Thanks for coming out of the closet!

Nice to meet you, Charlotte! I always have loved that name. I had a paperdoll who was just gorgeous and her name was Charlotte...that started the fondness.

Now instead of seeing a kangaroo hopping through the Outback, I'll be seeing a barnyard scene.

Jenn,
I have always liked it too. It was a very special name to my mother. It was actually the all of the names threads going on that got me thinking about making the switch.

Oh Mary Chris, I should give a prize to the person who guesses how many copies of THAT BOOK I have owned. It was a standard birthday/Christmas/any occasion gift for many years!

Charlotte? So, where did your blog title come from? My kids somehow became huge fans of the song, "Waltzing Matilda" even though we have no connection to Australia and I always wonder if you are Australian or if you were just into that song because of your name?

Charlotte is a beautiful name--is it a feminine variation of Charles? I have baby names on the brain and I don't like Charles for a boy so I'm exploring variations to appease dh :)

Matilda was one of my grandmother's names, her middle name actually and I always loved it even though she couldn't stand it. When she was growing up, Waltzing Matilda was a song that was popular and she was teased with it, but I always loved it (especially a rendition played by an Irish band in college).

Charlotte is a feminine form of Charles and also a fancy French dessert. Nicknames can include Charlie, Charlee, Lottie, and Chauncy. My mother never let me have one.:(

I should be to embarrased to post this, but I've posted worse...

Charlotte and I worked together at the IHM conference and I spent the whole day disappointed that I wasn't going to meet Matilda! Don't get me wrong - Charlotte is delightful and posesses incredible table display skills , but I was hoping to put a face to the name and all that I've come to enjoy about Matilda.

It wasn't until I got home that night that my wee brain...klunk...klunk...put 2 and 2 together!

Carlos is very cool sounding.

My father's middle name is Carroll which is an anglicized version of Charles, but I wasn't named for him. He hated it because it sounded like a girls name, but I think it was actually an old family surname.

That's fine Lisa! Sorry to be so confusing!

I'm a Charlotte too!!
Growing up (like elementary age), I really wished I could have been a "Christine" or a "Michelle"..or something. There were NO other Charlottes around. EVER.
I have grown to really love my name though. It truly is very feminine, and I am finding that it's making a comeback!! In my daughter's ballet class, there are two!!

We love the name Charlotte in our home. It was the favorite for our next girl for years (we have had 4 boys in a row!) - though has just gone to second place. My dd loves the name - has 3 dolls called Charlotte and is determined to have a daughter named Charlotte.

Nice to meet you Charlotte!
