We are starting early this year as we will be attending my nephew's wedding (all 4 of our kids are in the wedding ) on Memorial Day weekend on the outer banks of North Carolina next year. I know when we get back we're not going to want to do anymore school for the year besides testing so I want to finish before the wedding.
Then we are moving back to Ohio (YEAH!!!!) at the end of July when dh retires from the Air Force I could go on and on with the emoticons here but I'll stop myself!
We started a couple things today - Trisms (just the orientation week - Thanks Tracy Q for recommending that!) and Winston Grammar Word Works. We'll add in Math (Teaching Textbooks) next Monday. Then the Tuesday after Labor Day we'll add in Latin (Latina Christiana ll), IEW's Fix-it editing program (LOVED that last year!), religion (Faith and Life 8) and our weekly humanities studies on Wednesday mornings. It's been a little tricky today with Rachel still recovering from surgery . She's been extra cranky today for some reason.
When are you starting?

The plan is August 26th, "officially."
DD18 is leaving teh Friday beforehand for college, and then dh is off Sunday & Monday also (regular days off.) So, right after that.
I was thinking of starting sooner, but we would like to enjoy her last few weeks home w/o worrying about school stuff.
So that is the plan. Tho I reserve the right to change it .

I was starting to "ramp up" today. But that didn't work due to the crankies--or was it mom ramping up with math as our first subject But that was all for the day!!!
Hoping to try again tomorrow and have a loose schedule til September when we are going to try to cover 4 subjects a day. Wish me luck.

I don't know. I'm trying to avoid thinking about it actually. I know we need to start doing some stuff in Sept. but it is so beautiful here in Sept I just want to be outside. So I haven't quite decided. I like how you are starting and then adding things on how you go. I imagine I'll do something like that though. Having a hard time finding time to plan it all though!

We usually start the Monday before Labor day, but this year it will be the Tues. after. We had a bad stomach virus run through our family and it ate up 3 weeks of our summer ! We are finally over it now, and not ready (physically or emotionally) to jump back into school. I'm always excited to start up in the Fall, but only after we've had our break and I have my plans ready.

I was getting ready to start Aug. 25th but dh called the other day from work and said he is taking off that week from work...so there's no point in it now. But it's for a good reason to put it off So we'll start on Labor Day.

We school year round, but this summer's been hard school wise. We started up on the 14th of July. We take a lot of mini-breaks throughout the year.
Lisa, congrats on your dh retiring soon. We have 4 more years.

We are starting late this year, usually we start the second week in August, but, since we are going on a college road trip , we won't be starting until September 8. It's a great reason to start late.
God Bless

We're starting August 4th(3rd kind of) because that's when the Good News planner starts! I'm not kidding, this really made my decision for me. I'm so inspired by what I see, and if I even to half of the stuff there, it's all good!
We start slowly, with just Flashmaster for math drills, reading (they will read to me for a bit first so I can see what has percolated over the summer, phonics will come in a few weeks) and when we get the baby chicks later this week that will be a big project I can use for learning. We're also going to focus on developing one new habit a month. August is "put things back when you're done with them". Dh and myself included
We'll do this for about 6 weeks, then have a week or so break before all the co-ops and CCD and scouts start. I'm trying to run the whole year this way, with 8-10 weeks on, then a break, then on and only a long "book learnin'" break in June/July.
We've had a loosy-goosy schedule this past year with a baby and toddler and the turmoil at work (yes, we are now without work until possibly December ) but since the big boys will be 2nd and 3rd grade age I think they'll benefit from a little more structure.
Oh, and dd (2.75) will start Montessori in the fall. Since we host it at our house she will probably be pretty comfortable with it. She keeps putting on her Elmo backpack and saying "I go to school, toooo!".
The baby is finishing up the research for his thesis called "Legos and Mulch-The Fifth Food Group"

Isn't it nice to have some totally arbitrary reason to do something! One less decision to agonize over

August 18th is the date!
Public school starts back the 15th so the children might get their schultuete that day, do a quick review of materials and the overall scope of this year, and do some fun projects---I have a scavenger hunt planned---followed by ice cream.

We'll start back around the 11th of August with math, science, and history, then add in English and Latin after Labor Day, when I'll start my online high-school lit class. We're coming home for a wedding at the end of September, so I wanted to be sure we had some solid weeks of work under our belt, so that we could take a week's break then.

We start August 18, same as the public school kids. We pretty much follow that schedule since dh works in the institution. That way we have the same breaks as he does. We don't get anything done (other than playing) we he is around.

Sept. 1st here. It means we'll probably be doing school stuff next June but I'll deal with that then. Our schools start Aug.11th and with the miscarriage, I feel like we missed all of June. I'm not mentally or physically ready to start that early. We'll probably start on Math and 100 EZ lessons this week just to get a jump on things.

The Monday after Labor Day is our traditional start date. I like having an "extra" week of summer just because we can! It makes me feel a little rebellious!

I have Assumption as a benchmark date for having our house in order. I'm hoping to get back into tea time that day, set up some sort of pre-school structure for my almost 4yo (nothing too strenuous!) and throw an Open House for all our MN friends we've been avoiding in lieu of apartment-hunting.

Schools around here start after Labor Day (and of course my oldest must do things exactly like her public-school peers ), so officially that's when we'll begin. I do, however, plan to begin a short form-drawing main lesson block (Waldorf style) August 18th. Our weather here is beautiful during August and most of September (and then the 9 months of rain start! ), so our first month of school will be mostly nature study, anyway...
