Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just a poll sort of topic. I know it won't be a scientific survey, but if you're interested in sharing, I'm wondering at what gestation/how many days before or after your "due date" you had each child, and if you went into labor naturally (without even using castor oil or some other "natural" induction agent.) And how close to certain you are that the due date was actually 38 weeks from conception.

My first was a Pitocin induction at 39 weeks 5 days and my second I went into labor naturally at 38 weeks 6 days some hours after my waters had broken in a very definitive way, but both ended in c-section, and I see this as my last chance at a VBAC. Very confident about dates with the second, not as confident but fairly so with the first. Very confident with this one. There won't be any induction methods used.

The reason I'm particularly interested -- after figuring I wouldn't use a doula this time, I decided to hire the one I used last time, and she is available last minute but she'll be out of the country until 5 days before I'm "due!" I would have her backup available if she's not, but I'd much rather have her -- this is the first thing in quite some time that's made me want to stay pregnant until at least 39 weeks and 3 days!

all my babies, except the one we had induced, have been 9-10 days "late". i told my children if EVER a baby were to arrive a week early or be born on the EDD, they would be my FAVORITE child! I hate the wait!

Girls have all been born on or within a day of their due date ~ went into labor naturally.

2 boys were born about 5 days after their due date ~ went into labor naturally.

1 boy was breech, so he was turned and induced two days before his due date.

I'm pretty certain of all *my* due dates, I tend to ignore the ones the ultrasounds give me because they have been notoriously off! (i.e. they said dd #2 was conceived 3 days after her positive pregnancy test )

#1 went into labor naturally after water broke 7 days early
#2 went into labor naturally after water broke 11 days early
#3 went into labor naturally 14 days early
#4 went into labor naturally 16 days early
#5 jury is out on this one. Went all the way to only 3 days early! I was having prodromal labor, on and off for weeks. Went to an appointment, was 75% effaced and 4-5 cm dilated and having cntx every 7 minutes. They kept me and broke the water, he was born 45 minutes later (if that). I'm pretty sure I was really in labor already, for real that time, but they did intervene.

let's see...

#1-not sure on dates, was induced, born 12 days after her edd
#2-sure on dates, came on her own, born 8 days before her edd (from my O date)
#3-sure on dates, came on her own (well, we did do that same thing that got her in to get her out, but it was as much to have a possible last time, as to get her out, lol ), 9 days after her edd
#s4&5-boys were induced at 34w1d, as drs say that w/identicals, they want them out between 34/35 wks due to placental deterioration after a certain combined weight is reached (they were 4#11o, and 5#2o, so right around 10ish lbs). Ended up having to have an emergency csec because one of them got to lying on the other's cord.

HTH!

#1 - 38w 4d, natural 23 hour labor
#2 - 39w 5d, natural 90 minute labor
#3 - 37w 4d, natural 45 minute labor

My water broke while pushing with all three. We were 99% sure about conception and estimated due dates.

Fun
I always figured I'd go late- ha!

Number one-- my water broke the day before his due date and he was born 9:30am on his due date (all dates w/dr were accurate)
Number two-- went into labor three days early (my husband didn't believe me and was about to leave for work!), born that afternoon
Number three-- we planned to induce her a week early, and the night before the hospital called and asked us to come in the night before
Number four-- planned induction for about five days early, and I went into labor three nights before.

As much as I like "knowing" with the inductions, I love the excitement when they come on their own!!

#1, #2, and #3....I have no idea. I don't remember. I am pretty lousy with dates, and I am glad I remember when they were actually born, what they weighed, etc. I have no idea when they were due anymore. I still want to say my last dd was born June 2nd, when her birthday is June 3rd.

LOL, I always do that with #3 - I'm constantly checking with dh, "Was it the 18th or the 19th??"

Oh, so it's probably not that awful either that I was filling out a form that asked my 3yo's birth weight and I had to go find the announcement email I sent when we got home from the hospital? I even told the OB the wrong weight when he asked how big my last baby was. One ounce off. I think it's because a friend had a baby months before who was either one ounce heavier or one ounce lighter and I have managed to confuse what I think was her weight with my own child's! Never mind remembering how long either of my babies were when they were born.

Somewhat more on topic, I also have trouble remembering the time he was born because the time of birth was either 10 minutes plus one day or one day minus 10 minutes from when I woke up and the bag of waters went pop.

I will stop hijacking my own thread now. It's been reassuring to see no strong tendency toward later-in-the-family babies being born at an earlier gestation.

My first was 4 days before my "due" date. I went into labor naturally, ended up with emergency c-section.

My second was 4 weeks before my "due" date. I went into labor naturally, VBAC.

My third was c-section at 37.5 weeks because of pre-eclampsia.

With my daughter, I was induced at 14 days past her due date. She was born 15 days past. I was 99% sure on dates.

(I'm really hoping not to be induced our next one!)

We were comfortable with our two due dates. Both kids born two days before their due dates. My son was a natural start to labor, 12 hours duration almost to the minute.

With my daughter, we tried to induce five days before due date, but she wouldn't budge. Two days before due date my water "splashed" a bit, but labor didn't really get rocking until my water was broken by the doctor the next morning. She arrived 66 minutes later.

Both my kids were around nine pounds. Can't remember if you were asking that, but I'll throw it in anyway.

Ds, 37 weeks on the nose. Water broke first the night before. Labor was textbook--after the fact. I remember long. they made me push before I felt the urge. I can never remember his birthday because all the paperwork I filled out at work had 11/7 as my last day of work. Only recently have I remembered(10 years later) his birthday is 11/9, not 11/7.
Dd, 37 weeks plus one day, water broke, labored at home for 8 hours and she was born in the car, caught by dh, on the way to the hospital--yes, we pulled over. So, I don't really know what "time" she was born. The time on her paperwork is 2:10 am, the time they received the call at 911. Reality is closer to 2:30--but what do I know, I was a little busy
Per my midwife I am a microwave. I hope if I am blessed to carry another child it will be the same.
Oh, and dd's birth was absolutely beautiful! What a joy to have dh there--he did so great.

Oh goodness this was a while ago -

#1 three days past due date - labor started naturally, went to the hospital around 8:00am baby girl born around 6:00pm

#2 water broke a couple of days early - induced with pit around noon baby born girl born around 8:00pm.

#3 labor started day before due date - we were sent home from the hospital at which time the midwives informed me they were all going to a conference the next day! Baby boy born on his due date by a dr. I had never met before!! She wanted to start me on pit in morning - we left the hospital took a drive - I stepped out of the car and my water broke. He was born naturally around 12 noon of his due date. (I did pray really hard that my boy would not be born on Halloween - prayers answered - and believe me this boy needs every one of those Saints in Heaven!)

#4 Labor started naturally about 1 week late went to the hospital around 11:00pm baby born around 2:30am discharged by 3:00pm that day

#1 son was born 9 days past his due date. An ultrasound confirmed the due date. I took castor oil the night before labor started. His labor lasted 14 hours. I labored naturally, but had to have an emergency forceps delivery with an epidural right at the end because his heart rate was in danger.

#2 daughter was originally due May 5th based on my previous cycle but I "knew" she wasn't conceived until later. An ultrasound pushed her due date back to the 15th. She was born 9 days past due on the 24th after a 4 hour natural labor which started by breaking my water.

#3 daughter was almost exactly the same story without the altered due date. We never had a sono for her, but her due date was November 4th and she was born on the 13th after about a 6 hour natural labor that was started by breaking my water.

#4 son's labor started completely naturally and he was born after 12 hours of labor which included an epidural that was started and then stopped.

Since we are sharing a little more info, I'm going to update mine a little - and ask a question:

#1 - labor lasted 3 hrs, natural, almost had her in ambulance, 9.1 lbs
#2 - labor lasted almost 5 hours, natural, altho I was asking for an epidural at the end but they said not enough time, (he was sideways), 8.8 lbs.
#3 - 4 hours, natural, was scheduled to be induced next day and didn't want to, so I scared myself into labor, I think 9.8lbs.

Here is the question - Every one of my labors was at night - is it more common to go into labor in the evening/night?
