Growing up in NJ, all the public school kids had to go to CCD. When my kids were of the age, and I mentioned CCD, no one in AZ knew what I was talking about until I explained. "Oh, you mean RE!" Is what they said to me.
So - I'm curious - what region are you in, and is it CCD, RE, or something else?

Growing up, it was called CCD, and almost everyone over 20 still calls it that even though the parish calls it RE. I'm in So. CA.

It's always been CCD here, but I've noticed a gradual change to RE in the last few years.

Yup, I grew up with CCD and Cathechism class. I have heard RE-for religious ed. Here in Ohio it is PSR--parish school of religion.
Oh, and we also have FHS(family home schooling) and GOF(generations of faith)in our religious education choices. Arghhhh!

it's called CCD in general here.. not sure if it officially has a different name
Rural Oregon (which tends to differ a good bit from urban Oregon)

no general name here - CCD, PSR, RE, Catechism class all used interchangably - very confusing for me when I was a new convert.

It's called Faith Formation at our parish, however it's CCD at the neighboring parish.

Well, in our church it is called ECF (Eastern Christian Formation)
I am not sure what the local RC churches call it. I think it is CCD, but I am not sure as none of my friends send their children.
