Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If so where.

We have not gone on a summer trip for a few years. I think this year we might visit some friends at their house in Bethany Beach Del and we might go to the Lake Erie on the Canadian side.

Will you share where you go?

Growing up - I never did. Dh's family always did (altho according to him, never to anyplace good.)

For the length of our marriage - we have never had the $$$ to go anywhere.   So next year, we might actually be able to (if our AZ house sells so we don't have to pay two mortgages.)

I am excited at the thought!

To start - especially with the ages of our kids - we want to hit all the "popular ones" - like LegoLand and DisneyLand and the San Diego area (Zoo, museums, La Jolla tide pools, etc.)

But we would also like to go camping in some spots in CA - like I want to take the kids to see the huge trees, and I have always wanted to go to Yosemite.

And there are a few archaeological spots we would like to hit, but they are farther away (like Cahokia in MO and Chaco Canyon in NM).

So those are our "tentative" thoughts for next year.

We never did much when we were little except to Stinson Beach (across from SF) and sometimes up into the mountains. Dad ran his own Computer Consulting company about 10 years before it's time and we weren't exactly flush.

Now, we just seem to spend summers moving! -- see you soon, Mary Chris!

Nope, no summer trips.. my dh's busy season is summer.. we do every 2-3 years get a fall trip.. usually early Oct.

Most of our trips are to see family.. sometimes that's combined with other things but often not.

A few summers ago, we went to a local resort for a Sunday/Monday stay. It was great fun! Resorts around here are less expensive in summer because of the heat, so we got a good deal at a resort with a water park.

We tend to take shorter vacations because DH doesn't get any vacation time -- any time he misses means he has no opportunity for income (he works 100% commission) We did go to DisneyLand for a week 2 years ago between Thanksgiving and Christmas and that was a wonderful trip.

We've also taken trips to nearby locations -- for instance, Tucson is about 90 minutes away so we have gone and visited museums, etc -- stayed one night -- visited more places the next day and then returned that night.

We usually travel in the fall, and we take an annual trip to see friends in Indiana in mid-August. this year we are going to New Brunswick, Canada for a week this summer, though! I'm really, really looking forward to the trip.

Hmmmm.........we are STAYING PUT this summer........we had our BIG vacation LAST summer!

But, yeah.......we often take vacations. Usually they involve visiting homeschool friends somewhere (Pacific Northwest-Willa's home-Lissa & Erica in SD-cross country )....or, my dad treats us to Disneyland for a very long weekend.

I HATE leaving my home in the summer though, beause it is my favorite season here..........and I am loathe to miss it.

I am fine without summer trips, especially when I am pregnant, but my DH thinks they are really important for him - getting away from work and whatnot. We aren't big beach people, so we aren't doing that this summer.

This year we will be going to Lancaster, PA to have a "Day out with Thomas" (the tank engine) and go to the Hands On Museum. I think he has more he would like to do, but it is still in the works.

Vacation? What is that???

Seriously, I've not had a vacation since I delivered the boys last May--and that incl a nasty csec.

LOL

DH's deployment schedule, combined with my pregnancies, have kind of limited our 'vacation' time available. Between that, and money, well, ykwim. And I doubt that we will be taking one anytime soon--next year at the earliest, and likely the year after that.

SIGH.

I need a massage.

Rachel

We always did the week at the Outer Banks, but it's just too expensive and going with family doesn't seem to work out . Now that we've been camping (yes, in the rv parked right on the beach, just like the picture!), we may just be hooked on the Gulf of Mexico!

If you're interested in Lake Erie from the US side, we had a blast last year at Cedar Point. It was only about 6 hours or so from here. We stayed at the RV park right at the park, and there were cabins there, too. You could walk to the park and to their water park.

Canada is awesome, too, though--there is SO much to do. One of our favorite spots was the Butterfly Conservatory.

I have friends who spent Memorial Day weekend at Massanutten. I've never been there, but she said the waterparks were awesome and there was great hiking and outdoor fun. And it's close!

The water park at Massanutten is nice - we were there July 4 timeframe last year. The hills are more challenging to hike than they appear. You can drive into Harrisonburg for a movie or a bit farther south to Staunton to the Frontier Culture Museum - very cool! The little Catholic church near Massanutten is a very friendly place.

I never did too much vacationing as a kid, my husband did and it sounds wonderful. We bought a camper with heat and ac, the only way I camp and we have been using a lifetime membership that my inlaws purchased. This year we are sampling a resort in Myrtle beach. We will also be camping in NJ and the Poconos. It is a bit of work but my children love it.   Kim

This year we went to Pensacola Beach in May. My niece's graduation was the impetus for that trip, but it was beautiful and we would go back.

My parents rented a house on one of the Finger Lakes for a week in August this year. My siblings and their families and our family will be filtering in and out of the house over the course of the week. The owner has definite limits on the # of people who can be there on any given day, so we all can't be there at the same time. We've never visited the Finger Lakes before, so the trip will be a new adventure.

Last year after the 4Real conference we stayed at a house on DE Bay, rented from a friend's parents. We weren't far from Rehoboth. VERY quiet. We'd like to go back there someday too.

In past years we've tended to take trips with my husband, as he attends conferences to fulfill his continuing education requirements. He likes to take those trips in the fall, most of the time. One year we did go to Myrtle Beach on one of those trips, but we didn't care for it at all and wouldn't return.

When I was growing up we visited our grandparents for summer vacation. Our grandparents lived at least five hours away, so going to see them was a huge treat.
