Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do any of you folks who have trampolines use the safety enclosures? Do you just use the trampoline without the enclosure?

we have had broken fingers, dislocated hip, and more from tramp experiences. (we don't own ones, at friends)
I will say it was terrifying to watch a 6 y/o boy jump with enough force to send my (curious, not supposed to be there) 3 y/o girl flying off and onto the grass below.
so I heartily reccomend a safety enclosure.

Just FYI: My dh is an RN/paramedic and he absolutely refuses to allow our kids to have a trampoline. He has seen too many terrible injuries come through the ER resulting from trampolines. I think he might allow it if it had a good safety enclosure. We do have a mini exercise tramp, but that is entirely different.

Kristie--I think our trampoline was one of the best investments we ever made. The boys use it EVERY DAY. We do have an enclosure, mostly because with littles climbing in there with bigger ones, it is easy for them to get bounced around out of their control and fall. It also prevents my boys from jumping off the sides to the ground and doing monkey tricks around the edges. No one has been injured (yet) and we have been very happy with the play appeal to financial investment ratio!

oh yeah, we are big rebounder (mini tramp) fans around here. no better way to spell your spelling words orally!!
if I did have a tramp, I'd have to require enclosure and one at a time rule.

Wouldn't do it without the enclosure! We love our trampoline.

We have an enclosure too and the kids use the tramp everyday. We have a 2 person rule and no one has been hurt in the 3 years we've had it. For us too, it has been one of the best investments we've made.

Along Theresa's lines...my brother is a radiologist and has a whole file at work where he saves all of the trampoline injuries that come across his desk (plus the no helmet collection too, but that's another topic!) He wants to show his dc when they are old enough, why he won't let them on one. Oh and also, we know 2 people who have been paralyzed on the trampoline withOUT falling off of it. One was a mom just jumping with her kids, after 20 years, she now walks with a cane (after going from a wheelchair to a walker). She hadn't even been jumping high, she just landed funny and twisted and slipped. The other was a teenage boy who was jumping by himself...didn't fall off either. He did it unfortunately while no one was home, and laid on the trampoline (since he couldn't move) for over an hour waiting for parents to return home from work and hopefully notice him (which they did) outside.

Okay...so that was depressing! Sorry! Our kids aren't allowed on ones with or without enclosures...but if they were (if we didn't know all these horror stories) we'd definitely do only the enclosures I'm sure.

Kristie,we had never had one,but if you are considering getting a trampoline, check your home owner's policy.A few yrs. ago I was getting a new quote and the agent informed me that the policy is a lot more if you own a trampoline on your property.

We looked into getting one a few years ago - but heard too many horror stories. Our homeowners agent told us that they often cancel policies if trampolines are owned.

We love our trampoline. We have a safety enclosure. We have rules:

1. 1 person jumps at at time
2. no one can sit on the edge when someone is jumping
3. an adult must be informed and present (I will often watch out the kitchen window) before anyone can get on
4. no water on the trampoline
5. no objects other than a soft ball on the trampoline

It has been the best "toy" we ever bought.

Nina is correct about insurance policies. Some carriers will not even write you a policy if you have a trampoline. Our rate did not go up but not by much.

waverly, if those were the rules at our friend's homes, I would feel SO much better!! but we are in sticky situations where I feel like I'm the big meanie. when a yard full of homeschool kids are over and there are 3-8 kids jumping away I jsut cringe. I try to get my kids to stay off, and they obey, but then they are stuck just watching the others "have fun".

Don't have it and won't have it..

check with your insurance and also with your town/city regulations.. I believe some places consider them an "attractive nuisance" like a swimming pool and may have additional regulations and where you can have one, if it has to be inside a fence.. how high.. fence locked.. etc.

Don't and won't. Haven't and will not. LOL (we just moved, lol).

No, heard too much about injuries (even on the ones with enclosures, which makes me shudder). I'd love to have something safe like that for the dc, but it will just have to be "no", for now.

Thanks for all your info. I am going to tuck it away and give it some good thought. Either way, I will definitely be getting the enclosure....

(This always seems like such an awesome place to come for things like this )
