Hi, I just joined this great forum and I want to introduce myself.
I'm Kyle. I've been happily married to my husband Mike for nearly 5 years. We currently live in Overland Park, Kansas. I see a few members here from Virginia. Mike and I started our 'grown up' life in Arlington, VA but moved West when our family outgrew our 1 bedroom apartment. Our marriage has been blessed by the arrivals of Joseph (3) and Eli (17 months). From the beginning, we have considered homeschooling. Now that Joe is 3, I am starting to do some research to discern what my educational philosophy is and what I think will work best for my children.
I look forward to learning from all of you and contributing what I can.
Peace in Christ,
Kyle

Welcome to this motley crew, Kyle! We currently live in Denver, but are moving to Dumfries in June to help start the new diocesan high school out there ... we'll wave as we pass thru the dreaded (and really BIG) Kansas along I70!
Blessings and jump right in with questions, comments or just funny stories ... we love it all!

Welcome Kyle!
I was just looking into possibly moving to Kansas! (I think we are narrowing down our search to Ohio and Kansas at the moment!) We're in Va now (grew up in NoVa). What is Kansas like for Catholics? Catholic homeschoolers? We were looking at a house online in Cherryvale which is in the Southeast corner of Kansas. Know anything about that area/diocese?

Cherryvale is in the Diocese of Wichita. Bishop Jakels worked for Cardinal Ratzinger before he came to Wichita.

It is a very small town, close to the Oklahoma border. While there is a community of Catholic homeschoolers in the Kansas City area, I don't imagine that there are many down there. Homeschooling is fairly easy in Kansas. There isn't much anti-Catholic sentiment here, even in areas like those in SE Kansas, where they are a smaller percentage of the population. Catholic populations are higher in the northern and central regions.
The region is fairly economically depressed right now, which might be important for you to know, unless you have a job already lined up.
All in all, Kansas is a great place to live.

We really like our corner of Kansas. Archbishop Naumann is awesome. A very holy man. We live 4 miles from the state line and Bishop Finn, on the Missouri side, is also great. We have been blessed to meet many wonderful Catholic families.
The Kansas City area is known for its art scene, in addition to its bar-b-q. There are many, many homeschooling families in this town. A lot of gyms, dance schools, etc. offer classes during the day specifically for homeschoolers. PM me if you'd like more info. We have been happy here. And we know several families who have moved West from the DC area in the past few years. There seems to be a bit of a migration West.
