Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have 4 little sisters that are elementary age and younger and 2 of them have birthdays coming up. I'd like to get them books. Of course, what better place to ask about books than to you ladies! My children are still very small, so I don't have the same insight that some of you might have. They are turning 6 and 10. Any suggestions?!

A is for Annabelle by Tasha Tudor is one of my daughters' favorites. It has been reprinted a few times. My girls also just discovered the Cobble Street Cousins by Cynthia Rylant. Those both might be better suited for the 6 year old. The Marguerite Henry horse stories like Misty and King of the Wind would be the right age for the 10 year old. My almost 9 year old fell in love with The Girls' Book of Flower Fairies today at the bookstore but we don't own it yet. I will probably look for it cheaper online. Hope that helps.

American Girls Handibook

Catholic Girls Guide by Fr. Lasance

We do really enjoy The Flower Fairies as well. My daughter likes all things written by Marguerite Henry.

Oh this really helps! I think that my almost-ten-year-old sister would LOVE the American Girl's Handibook! I have never seen that! That is right up her ally.

The younger is harder. I just realized I said 6, she's turning 5! That was a typo! Five seems like such an in-between age to me! If anything, I would say she is on the more immature/younger end of 5, but is starting to read. I'm going to check out the ones you suggested for her, Matilda! Thanks! I wonder if you know them...I'm pretty sure you are involved at their parish in Texas!

Please keep the suggestions coming! (Maddie, I love the Princess and the Kiss! In fact, I think I have given it to one of them in the past!    )

Maddie, that is beautiful! Funny enough, I think that my sister who will turn 8 this summer would love that! Thanks for all the suggestions! I made my orders last night and am so excited to see the books before I send them off to my sisters! I really appreciate all the help!!!

I'm a little late, but my 5-dd loves James Herriott's Treasury for Children.
