Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A little backstory: There is a maintenance man in DH's building at work who is a little person. My Therese has always been afraid of this man. She is a little girl who gets frightened pretty easily and the sight of this man has always terrified her. Recently she saw him and voiced again that she was afraid of him. She is 3 and fairly intelligent so I tried explaining to her that God makes all different types of people and loves them all, etc, etc. The more I tried to make her feel better the worse she felt Unfortunately, it seemed that not only did she fear him, but she felt bad for fearing him I tried to show her pictures online of other little people. I tried to point out how her daddy is short while other men are tall, etc. Nothing. I got nowhere.

Fast forward to today. We attended Mass this afternoon at a different parish because we will be at a Pre Cana all day tomorrow. As we turned around for the blessing of the palms, Therese spotted the maintenance man in one of the pews. She started to shrink back in fear. But, I knelt down and started talking to her about how neat it was that this man was a friend of Jesus just like her. I told her that he was there to receive Jesus just like us. Her fear turned to elation She was so glad to see him and started referring to him as *her* friend. During Mass she kept turning around and looking toward him and smiling. She wants to tell him that her name is Therese and ask him what his name is! I cannot tell you what a gift this is.

I was gently reminded today that we cannot do anything on our own. No matter how well I reasoned with her I got nowhere.

I wish you all a blessed Holy Week!

Beth
