Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We're looking at a property near there (Gilbertsville). I'm curious to know about the area. I have an uncle in Chenango Forks, but other than that, I know nothing about the area...

LOL! I hear that. Brian and the boys are HUGE baseball fans, too. <sigh>

I'm a convert to baseball myself.

Well, they have a good hospital with a excellent orthopedic surgeon. We discovered that the summer before last when we were diamond mining (that's nearby) and Paul broke his arm (not while mining). Geologically, it's similar to western MA. Folks are very friendly.

Cooperstown and the surrounding area is really very pretty and quite rural...and I think Angela lives close by (Angel on these boards, whose blog is Three Plus Two).

I grew up a couple of hours south, midway between Albany and NYC, kind of in the southern foothills of the Catskill Mountains. The Cooperstown area is in the northern foothills. It's nice and hilly, though the more north you go (towards I-90/Syracuse), the flatter the terrain becomes.

There are a few SUNY colleges in the area: SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Cobleskill, and Binghamton Univeristy. Binghamton would probably be the closest city, though it isn't large.

Hopefully some current NY residents will be able to give you more info.

Hi Nissa,
We are in Central NY about 45 minutes from Cooperstown. We love it there. It is such a great little town! I have not heard of Gilbertsville but I will ask dh. He knows that area better than I do.

much peace,
Ryane

Oh, that's wonderful! Gilbertsville is part of Butternuts. It's a little village of about 400 people, apparently.

I'd love to hear about homeschooling and churches in the area, even if it's not the exact town/district.

Nissa,

I just googled Gilbertsville and it looks like a really cute little artsy-type town. I will definitely have to check it out!

There is one Catholic church in Cooperstown that I know of. I have not been there, but my husband used to go there several years ago when he played for a baseball team in Cooperstown. We live in a "suburb" of Utica and there are several Catholic churches here including a Tredentine mass offered by the Confraternity of St. Peter (they come up from PA).

My son is still young (almost 3) so I am not officially homeschooling yet but one of my best friend's here is homeschooling her kids. They are a beautiful Catholic family and I could connect you with them if you are up here. They know other homeschooling families with kids older than my own.

Are you thinking of moving up here full time?

much peace,
Ryane
