I'm thinking of starting a new blog. I discovered I kind of liked blogging. Not that I wrote a lot but it was fun sharing. Anyway, I'm thinking of trying either blogspot or wordpress. Which do you prefer?

Haven't tried Wordpress, though I contribute to a blog that uses it. I'm not a very regular contributer, though, so I haven't been initiated into the mysteries of the software yet!
I love blogspot -- it's easy to use and make look nice, and I've run into no problems in the year-and-a-bit that I've been using it.
HTH!

Just want to throw in a plug for homeschool journal, my home away from home,LOL!
It is free, ad free, and easy to use, with excellent support. I've used several other sites and have had the best experience with HSJ.

Make that "the blackeyed peas are NOT burning to the pan." Sheesh. I really don't burn dinner on purpose.

I started with blogspot, but have recently switched over to Wordpress (although, self hosted... which was one factor).
I prefer Wordpress. I like the fact that if I choose, I can 'lock' posts (I don't post identifying pictures or details... if I decide I want to, I can restrict who can view it). I like the fabulous range of themes to choose from. It's really easy to use.
I've set my parents up with wordpress blogs, and have been recommending it to everyone I know.

I've only used blogspot and I find it very easy--but the Wordpress blogs all look cooler :)

Well...I use blogger...and it's ok....but, I'm such a sucker for pretty blogs, and I soooooo wish I could add pretty book covers to my side bar, and that 2 side bars were even an option (I hacked into the code of my blog to add a right and left sidebar .) Don't get me wrong, blogger is very user friendly, and free. So there's that. And they do seem to be good about updating and offering more and more options for blogging.
Typepad blogs are the prettiest to me, but they do cost $$ so I guess it would depend on how serious you are about blogging as to whether or not you used them or not. I do like the Wordpress blog look, but I have a friend who had so much trouble with getting Wordpress to work for her. She (like me) has a mac, and I'm not sure if that was a factor.
Good luck deciding, cause once you get started again, you won't want to switch blog hosts. I feel a little stuck.

Another vote for Wordpress! (like Fe, private hosting -- not free, but cheaper than Typepad)
If you want to "just blog", I suggest blogspot or free wordpress or the other free services where it's basically "plug and play" -- IOW, sign up and start blogging.
If you want greater control over template, ads, etc., and you don't mind fiddling with CSS sheets and html coding, etc., I'd suggest privately-hosted Wordpress.

Actually, I have also used free wordpress... and liked it (very similar from a user perspective...) it's just that we've chosen to host all our blogs on our own server (which has its own issues:-( things are a bit dodgy at the moment—but that's at our end...), but I'm still a wordpress fan.
We're also Mac users here... and no trouble from that side of things (although, I have ended up using Firefox for blogging, because Safari is a little idiosyncratic!... I'm not sure if that's Mac related though).
