I had to go to the doctor today due to a developing kidney/bladder infection and needing my thyroid checked due to heart fluttering a bit. After much thought I decided I had to take Annuncia with my my oldest, Jack to help me as it is 3/4hour drive from my place and I would be away from her too long for my mum to cope with a hungry baby (unfortunately I couldn't go to a doctor closer because he is the only doctor I know who tests and treats my thyroid the way he does.)
But I wasn't happy about taking her out...anyway, she was a good girl in the car and in the surgery while waiting, then as I went in I gave Annuncia to Jack to look after, when I came out the receptionist was holding her, Jack had said she had asked for a hold just before I came out. When I went to the counter to pay, we were talking about something and she had exclaimed, "Jesus!" in response to something I said to express surprise. I was ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED - she was holding Annuncia when saying it...I'm a so very, very upset saying prayers of reparation all the way home...but I can't take it back!!!! What can I do? How do I 'make up' for this terrible, terrible thing? What effects for my dear baby?

Oh, but you didn't do anything wrong! There is absolutely nothing for you to make up for, sweetie! The receptionist is the one who needs to seek forgiveness, and I pray that she will. Your baby certainly didn't do anything wrong, and why would our Lord take anything out on little Annuncia? That just isn't the nature of God to punish you or your sweet, innocent baby for the sins of the receptionist holding her. Your strong feelings of sadness over this must be very dear to Jesus' heart, and I'm sure that you don't need to feel any guilt right now.
Praying hard that you will find peace about this tonight.

I can only imagine that your precious, innocent child only heard the name of Jesus as a prayer of worship and adoration, no matter what the intent of the person who spoke His Holy Name in a less than holy way! Trust in God's infinite grace and protection, poured out through the grace-filled things you live and teach your children continally in the sanctity of your home! Our own granddaughter's very first word was "Jesus", and it was because His Name was taught to her and spoken in her presence, regularly, with reverence and holy respect! Praise God that our children are blessed to be continually in our midst where we can teach them and enkindle in them true love for the Precious Name of Jesus. Thank God that He protects the innocence of His little ones in so many, many ways! The more we face such incidents with calm and holy response, the more our children will recognize the better way!
Perhaps the Lord allowed that incident to occur so you will be prompted to pray for the woman involved, who obviously doesn't realize the sin of uttering His Precious Name in such a way. Whenever you think of what transpired, turn your thoughts toward praying for her, and so many lost souls who use the Lord's Name in vain. The Divine Praises or the Litany of the Holy Name are wondrous prayers for such times.

Search for Litany of the Most Holy Name of Jesus on the same site. (I just randomly chose whatever site came up with a google search...there are many excellent sites for finding various prayers)
BTW, we have a prayer binder where we can readily find extra prayers that are not easily acccessible in our prayerbbooks. When we face a situation like the one you just encountered we try to make it a practice to pray for that intention as soon as possible. We will pray the two prayers mentioned this morning for all those concerned.

Anne, I would have been upset too...I hope you don't think you caused this in any way. Perhaps, instead, this poor woman will go home remembering your darling baby girl and realize that, in the face of such innocence, the Holy Name should only be said in love and prayerful respect. Maybe you were placed there to change this woman's heart...
I'll pray for you today...please don't worry about Annuncia...I'm sure Servant is right and she has only heard the Holy Name the way it is meant to be heard.
to you from several continents away...

A quick note- I agree that you don't have anything to worry about! Your prayers for the woman are more than enough. Maybe that's why God permitted her to say that in your presence. Maybe noone else ever prays for her, and knew you would. :-)
On a strange note- I only looked at one thread today, this one, and I just finished a Litany of the Most Holy Name of Jesus from my Magnificat. I only found it this morning, quite by chance. I was looking for a morning offering prayer. Hmmm... I felt like I should say it (the litany), even though we are late for our co-op, and I also came on here, again, despite being late.
This is giving me chills!
In Christ,
Leocea

Anne, Praying for peace for you. It is a sinful world we live in. The Litany is beautiful. Maybe Annuncia is going to have a special devotion to the Most Holy Name of Jesus, wouldn't that be cool?
love,

Anne,
I am so sorry about this...but I echo what everyone else says about not worrying about your dear baby, or feeling guilty yourself. If I were you, I would continue the receptionists' "prayer"...at least that is how I see it when someone takes the name of God in vain in my presence. She started the prayer by saying "Jesus...
Now we can finish it for her
Have mercy on us, sinners. Jesus, may your Most Holy Name be forever praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified, in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, always and everywhere.
My God, I believe, I adore, I trust, and I love thee! I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not trust and do not love thee!
There. Now her words are transformed into a blessing!
Hope you are feeling better about this!

Dear "Annie" (that's our granddaughter's name as well!),
Thank you so much for sharing your experience...it prompted a beautiful candlelit prayertime this morning, when we prayed the Divine Praises and the Litany of the Holy Name. Then we discussed how it is SO necessary to reverence the Lord's Name, so much so that the second most important commandment from God tells us to never take His Name in vain! Your sharing made for a memorable and meaningful homeschool lesson and prayertime!

Anne
You have such a beautiful heart.
May the Lord reward you for your devotion! I hope you feel better soon.
I think everyone here addressed your other concern admirably.

Anne, you and your darling daughter are so beautiful! What a wonderful devotion you have to Our Blessed Mother and to her infinitely divine son, Jesus.
I agree with everyone here ... there is no way that you can control what others say, but your prayers for this woman far exceed what she said.
I pray for your peace of mind in this time of distress.

Anne, everyone has given you wonderful advice here.
I just want to add this little prayer, which is called "The Golden Arrow:"
May the most holy,
most sacred,
most adorable,
most mysterious and unutterable Name of God
be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified
in heaven on earth and under the earth,
by all the creatures of God,
and by the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ
in the most Holy Sacrament of the altar.
God bless you!

Our Lord knew this would happen, that it would disturbe you and that you would pray over and over for her. She needed your prayers and He picked you for this experience because of your love for Him and His holy name.

Oh sweet Anne, the Lord must be so in love with you and comforted by your deep reverence for His Holy Name. And you little Annuncia, I feel quite certain she too will be a powerful little prayer warrior whose heart rises up to defend Jesus' name--after all, she's got you for a mum (I feel sooooo Aussie ).

Donna Cori Gibson uses this prayer as her "mission statement". This link explains the prayer in more detail. To hear her sing it is divine.
