When did the rules change? Didn't you used to be able to keep a blockbuster.com rental as long as you wanted? Now it's 14 days? Didn't you used to be able to trade it for one at the store? But now you can only do that five times a month (which is probably plenty).
It's not that we need movies longer than 14 days or that we need to trade more than five times a month. But now it's just one more (or two or whatever) thing to keep track of. How many days has it been? How many have we traded? How many in the queue. Who's on first? Where are my keys?
Somebody tell me when this happened please. It's a mater of --ahem--"discussion" around here.
And what about netflix?

We do netflix. Nothing to remember other than to send the DVDs back eventually and line up movies in the queue every so often. Love it. Here's more.
I'm biased...I never have liked Blockbuster in a building so never considered .com. I want to support netflix because they do a good job and they give blocbuster competition. Hey...I think the price of netflix went down since I started with them a few years back:).
Love,

Another thing I appreciate about Netflix is that we don't have to go into the store and see those less-than-lovely DVD cases with glorious pictures on them, if ykwim.
Peace,
Nancy

Here is the little known secret about Blockbuster. They are losing money on this whole online deal. Yes, they are changing the rules because a lot of people have been using the current system to enjoy the movies they want but it is costing Blockbuster too much to keep it going. One man used their system so much, he basically ended up paying $0.30 a movie over the course of the year. They aren't making enough money to cover their overhead costs (electricity, salaries, etc...) at their stores. Netflix has no overhead because they have no stores. Eventually, Blockbuster is going to have to get out of the online business (which is what they want to do) or out of the store business. They raised their rates here recently and changed all of the other rules to try to encourage people to opt out of the online program. Sorry, but thems the facts.

P.S. We will probably switch to Netflix just because I hate having to go to the store alone to trade something in since I refuse to take the kids with me.

We never liked the blockbuster store, so didn't consider it.
We've had netflix for several years now and love it. And they have a growing list of instant viewing movies that you can watch on the computer and it doesn't count on your queue. (I've been watching all the old Doctor Who shows that I never saw before in what my dh thinks is a tragic pop culture deprivation. )
They also have several catholic and catholic-ish movies too! We had the 3 at a time unlimited option for something like $19 including tax I think. That's plenty for us. (something for the grownups, something for kids, something for the family...) Never had any problems.

This is what turned us on to Netflix in the beginning. We've had an account there for years, and we love it. We have a 2nd queue that's just movies for the kids,so when they're done with their movie, they get the next one in their line. it's still part of our account, I just don't have to try to remember to get them a movie now and then.
It's also really easy to up the number of movies out at a time. Or decrease. We went up to 6 out at a time just before Thanksgiving, so we would have movies for our drive down to MS. When we returned, we went back to our 3 out at a time.
Also, it's easy to put your acct. on hold, if you need to take a break for some reason. They hold your queue for a long time...6 months or so.
We Netflix!

My only thing with Netflix is you can't watch the instant movies on a Mac -- or have they fixed that?
As soon as they do, I plan to switch!

They still haven't fixed that! It has something to do with DRM and last I read it won't be until 2009 or so :(
I love netflix, though!

Netflix is great. Blockbuster has been so disappointing here. Can't even really take the kids in there.

We started with Netflix because we were stationed overseas and there wasn't a Blockbuster to drop movies off at. They've dropped their prices, have almost every movie/documentary/TV series we could ever want and their turn around is fast.

I'm a Netflix fan here. they have lowered their rates recently. we are on the one at a time plan for 8.99 per month- that includes 9-10 hours (can't remember) of instant viewing online as well per month. Our distribution center is 55 miles away so the turnaround is one to two days. Blockbuster has porn and their box stores really irk me to no end, so I could never support them. I am sure Netflix has their share of bad stuff, but people cannot run into it like you can at a real store.
We are on an inspirational sports story kick here- just saw We are Marshall (I am a sucker for true stories!), Facing the Giants, (a bit disappointing, compared to Bella, in the "Christian" genre), and Goal! The Dream Begins (big hit!!) we can't wait for Goal 2 to be released. I also have found every foreign children's film I have ever wanted at Netflix.

LisaR,
How about Miracle, The Greatest Game Ever Played, and The Flying Scotsman (which might be too intense for children)?
We will be switching to Netflix soon.

Our family votes:
We are Marshall - thumbs up
Facing the Giants - thumbs down (predictable and thin...we had a great conversation about faith = "get what you want in the end" foundation of film)
Remember the Titans - thumbs up
Glory Road - thumbs up
Brian's Song - thumbs up
Angel's in the Outfied (original and Disney) - thumbs up
Pride of the Yankees - thumbs up
The Jackie Robinson Story - thumbs up
Haven't seen:
Goal! The Dream Begins
Miracle
The Greatest Game Ever Played
The Flying Scotsman
Rudy (Christmas Gift)
Hoosiers (Christmas Gift)
Love,
