Is anyone receiving the new Victoria? I know we have discussed it before but I haven't heard how anyone likes it. If it is as good as the first few years were, I would like to get it for my mother, she loved it. Any reviews?

Bridget,
I picked up the December issue...I've seen it at Books-A-Million and Wal-Mart. I never saw the other issues so I have nothing to compare it to.
I loved that there was a section on Tasha Tudor's unique vintage clothing and the author with a fetish for paper goods. Yeeesss!
There were some good pieces in it but I find myself preferring my simple Hobby Farm Home and Country Sampler better.
But that's just me.

I found it less interesting, to be honest. A sweet friend gave me a gift subscription, and I am enjoying it, but it is more eye candy and less interesting articles, this time round. Or maybe it was just the articles are less interesting to me personally - the clothes of Tasha Tudor's collection were beautiful...I don't know, I like more words, I suppose!
It certainly isn't quite as fascinating as I recall it being.

I really enjoyed it, I think at this time it is smaller than in it's heyday. If they get a great response I'm certain they'll be beefing it up.
Tasha's clothes were fabulous!
The recipes are just as yummy looking as before (haven't made any yet this go-round)
I've asked for a subscription for Christmas.

I got a subscription as part of my Christmas from DH...its...nice. I wish it was a bit more " how to" ish, if that makes any sense. I never got a chance to read the older ones, wish I had.
I LOOOVED the bit on Tasha Tudor's clothing collection! Some of (MOST of!) them were soooo pretty....
SIGH....

I missed this original posting, but I was going to post a similiar question/reflection.
Now that it's been back in print, what do you think?
I'm not feeling it's the same. I can't quite put my finger on it. I find it's more materialistic -- reviews of goods to buy. All about the "the things". I do wish it had more how-to articles.
I find there's less emphasis on the "Victorian" part, as the previous life had. Victorian age did have a lot of "stuff" and so it's hard to break away from that emphasis, but I just feel the magazine is a lot of creating needs for goods instead of adding that beautiful, serene, simple touch to the surroundings around you.
The blue/white issue left me cold. It was too contrived.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it. It's just not the same to me. Perhaps it's because I'm at a different place?

I found it the same way....woefully short of the "How to" articles I was hoping for (although I did love the Tasha Tudor clothes collection)....
For the How Tos, I find that A Storybook Home fits the bill alot better (plus I like to know I am supporting a family run business).

That's what I couldn't put my finger on! Great pictures, but not enough how-to.

I also like Blissfully Domestic (somewhat--its a variety pack, lol), and a few other more home-decor blogs, that are more my style specific, iykwim.

I confess I'm starting to get blog fatigue. They just aren't a good substitute for holding a book or magazine in the hand and looking over the glossy colorful pictures.
I think I'm getting information saturation overload. It's not bad info, just too much of a good thing.
