I am really looking forward again, to the 3, 30min movies EWTN show in Advent - Michael the Visitor - Martin the Cobbler and The Chimes - two written originally by Tolstoy and the other by Charles Dickens. Beautiful and touching is the word for them all.
I should edit to say that these movies are not 'Christmas' movies per se, but EWTN show them only in the Advent season, but they really capture such beautiful sentiments of the soul, that personify Christmas in so many ways - the Chimes is set around New Year's day.

Top Picks (just off the top of my head):
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol (w/ George C. Scott, if possible)
Muppets Christmas Carol - parts of it are hysterical!
And The Sound of Music when it is televised - why is it more exciting that way?? I think it must be the commercial breaks at the most suspenseful moments!

Oh yes, I forgot to add.. Scrooge, with Albert Finney made in 1970 my favourite movie rendition of A Christmas Carol - a great musical that has you laughing and crying.

My favorite Christmas movie is either It's a Wonderful Life or White Christmas - I can never decide. I also enjoy the old Christmas in Connecticut.
I was browsing Christmas movies online yesterday and I noticed The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey! I didn't know that was made into a movie! Has anyone seen it? I am tempted to buy it.

We have lots of favs, but here are the ones that we really look forward to:
the old Miracle on 34th Street (a fav since I was little!),
Lemon Drop Kid with Bob Hope
the cartoon classics (except can't stand Frosty )
Christmas in Connecticut
White Christmas
Holiday Inn
Come to the Stable
and for more current (at least color ) Christmas movies:
Santa Clause, Santa Clause 2, Elf -- these are a bit sassy, but we just love them!

I have a list of them in the new Christmas Mosaic.
I saw last week about "The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey". I'm anxious to see it.

I love all the movies already mentioned. Also, we enjoy The Bishop's Wife. After all, Cary Grant as an angel? Couldn't get any better.

I'm resurrecting this old thread to see if you all can help me with a hunt...
A few years ago...maybe 9 or 10??...there was a 30 minute program that came on EWTN during Advent. I don't remember the name and I'm trying desperately to hunt it down...I'll tell you the details I remember and hopefully someone can help me remember the name so I can hunt it down.
It was about animals, and I think it was all about legends and traditions about animals associated with the Nativity of Our Lord, for example, I remember that one had to do with the Robin and how tradition holds that he received his red breast when he saw the little infant Jesus in the manger.
EWTN no longer plays it.
Anybody?

For some reason I thought of a movie I haven't seen in years and thought of this thread, WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING. It occurred to me that it is a holiday movie in my mind. Anyway, just adding it to the list.
Sorry if I got your hopes up, Jennifer, about remember the EWTN one.

I did a couple of years ago...but maybe I should try to do that again, Jodie. I was just hoping that someone here would say, "oh....yeah...that's.............."
I should write and ask again though.

I can't remember, Paula...why? do you remember something with those legends in it? Seems like it was titled "The Animals of something...maybe the Nativity"??????? I could be totally wrong on the title I'm remembering though. I just remember that they used to play it on Christmas Eve and it was a half hour program.

Oh, thank you, dear MrsM for trying!! But nope, it wasn't animated at all. It had a warm, glowing feeling - the show did. Isn't that a goofy, girly thing to say? A man would probably remember far more details, but I remember that it was warm and delightful and the legend of the Robin Redbreast.
