There are times when one cries b/c s/he does not want to go to bed, and I say to myself, okay, five minutes, and I'll go back up. More often then not, they fall asleep b/f the five minutes are up. I echo Mary Theresa-- its much easier for my family when the kids all follow routine, and go to bed on time. You need the downtime, too.
