I am trying to come up with my meal rotation plan for the fall. Does anyone want to share their menu plans/recipes - I am not feeling inspired. I am trying to find dinner recipes that can be put on in the morning/early afternoon - for the ballet and soccer early and late dinners.

Any fun lunch ideas too? I have great breakfast ideas but struggle on the other meals.

that is so funny I just made a menu for most of the month before I went shopping yesterday. I too was trying to rotate what we ate and vary the meat dishes...

ours looks like we eat meat at almost every meal, but sometimes, It is just a small amount, or just for dh. he is a big meat eater... lol

this is it.

1. C      rolled tacos
2.        BBQ at the pool
3. B      sheppard's pie
4. C      chicken stir fry
5. E      quiche
6. Ps     Pasta & veggies, with a butter garlic sauce
7.        pool party.. food provided
8. P      Pork chops with pudding for dessert
9. Bkft   pancakes
10. T      tacos/tostadas
11. C      BBQ chicken sandwiches
12. PS     Baked zitti
13. ?      birthday night.... not sure yet.. cake!
14. F      macadamian crusted Mahi Mahi
15. BorT   grilled hamburgers with all the trimmings
16. B      pot roast dessert: cake or pie
17. E      eggs burritos
18. C      chicken enchiladas
19. F      Fish sticks (fish tacos for adults)
20. Ps     alfredo with broccoli and tomatoes
21. ?      pool party... food provided
22. B&T    meatloaf with birthday dessert...
23.        left overs
24.        pizza

that is as far as I got.... but with only 6 more days in the month, I am sure it will come together.

some of my meals are crockpot, others I will have had prepared ingreds ahead of time. like ground meat will be all cooked and portioned out. or be made into patties or meatloaf then frozen. the pork chops and chicken breasts I bought are in portioned bags with marinade in the freezer. veggies will be chopped and bagged. I cook up enough rice for a week or more, then freeze for later meals and/or lunches.

and for things like enchiladas, shepp's pie, I put it together in the morning, then just pop it in the oven at dinner time. I may start some bread/rolls in the bread maker too.

we usually always have salad and fruit or veggies as sides. with bread or rice or potatoes offered with some of the meals. I also try to hide veggies in some meals, like enchiladas and meatloaf and lasagna are easy ones to do this.



C = chicken
F = fish
T = turkey
Ps = pasta
P = pork
E = egg based
B = beef
bkft = breakfast for dinner!

we have scouts one night a week and Karate twice. dh has been having duty at least twice a week also. we also have a pool party every other friday with food for sale. that food varies, but is a night that I don't have to cook lol.

many times for certain meals, I will make extra so freeze half for a later meal ( like enchiladas, zitti, meatloaf, make extra quiches, the roast left overs will be used to make beef enchiladas later..etc).

we usually eat our left overs for lunch. we also pack a lunch for dh to take.

our other lunch things:

yogurt, granola and fruit
quesadillas
soup and sandwhich
salmon patty burgers
pasta and veggies
rice and veggies
veggies with peanutbutter dip
smoothies!
of course, sandwhiches! lol

and we usually offer veggies and dip with lunch and a few chips. maybe a cookie afterwards.

we are tying to do snacks too. the kids must be growing! lol as they seem to be hungry all the time. so for morning snack we have fruit and afternoon we have veggies and maybe a couple of crackers.

i'm working on a one week menu rotation. it has worked so well for me this summer and really, we do eat the same seasonal foods week after week. just as we are tiring of zucchini and tomatoes, they are disappearing from our garden. i'm still working on my fall menu and trying to incorporate fall foods. here's what i have so far:

tacos - perfect in the crockpot on soccer practice night
roast chicken, rice and zucchini
cabbage and chicken sausage
salmon, sweet potatoes, spinach, maple glazed carrots
meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy and brussel sprouts
roast, carrots and potatoes
sunday is try out new recipe day.

my breakfasts, lunches and snacks stay the same and rotate weekly.

lunches:
amy's cheese pizza
joile ravioli
pasta & pesto
grilled cheese
sandwhiches
leftovers

our snacks are seasonal fruits and/or a veggie tray with dip.

i used to read other pple's menus and think that they looked so good but using their recipes was work and my family often didn't like the meal. what really helped me to actually stick with a menu plan was to look at what my family actually liked to eat. maybe you could ask your kids/hubby what they would like to see on the dinner table? it's fun to plan, isn't it?

I haven't gotten my plan together yet for fall but am planning at least 1 crockpot night a week and probably a pasta night, Mexican night and meatless Fridays.

I made this recipe tonight and it was a huge hit with my dh. I've made it in the past and always gotten raves--my brother and sil LOVE it! Most of my kids don't like it that much but I think it's the mustard which they don't like on anything. It's too heavy--and unhealthy--to make often but is a yummy cool weather dish. Wasn't cool here today but was cooler so I guess I'm just getting in the fall mood.

I used to do...
Monday- soup
Tuesday- bean or lentil
Wednesday- pasta or casserole or meat
Thursday- bean or lentil
Friday- always Pizza night (homemade)
Saturday- leftovers etc.
Sunday- something simple!!(We like to relax)

Then I had some rotating options...
-quiche and oven fries
-fish
-more soups
-company meals: I try to make these meals not break the bank.

I make up a menu for two weeks at a time to shop for two weeks at a time. I don't always follow the menus, but they give me a good base and I know I have the foods on hand to make the meals.

I use the above framework (along with one for breakie's) to plan the meals.

We don't eat much meat at all (1-4 times a month) and rely heavily on beans and lentils, and often cheese (ouch$$$) for lunch meals.
