Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know this has been discussed before, but if you have a blog, which blogging service do you use? (Not even sure if that is the correct term). And why did you choose that particular one? Do you worry about security?

Also, why do you have a blog? And how long does blogging take? I'm thinking of getting one, but the time aspect makes me wary. I know I could only blog once in a while, but if I rarely did, why should I even bother? Thanks for any help/opinions/suggestions.

Patty

For me, setting up my blog was very time consuming - like an entire weekend, whenever I wasn't cooking or cleaning or taking care of my family. But after I got it set up, it's easy to add a post. I maybe spend 20 minutes per post, and you don't have to post every day. If you want to re-format your blog, that could take a chunk of time, but you don't have to do that often, if ever.

After investigating blog services, Typepad seems to have the most support. I am technologically challenged, so that was important to me. I was willing to pay for it.

I kind of worry about security, but not as much as some people. I use my kids' first names, ect.

The reasons I came to blog were about sharing ideas. I had been "stealing" everyone else's ideas for a while by reading other people's blogs. I also like that my favorite links, websites and blogs are all posted on my blog, so that has become like my homepage. It's easy to navigate around to my favorite spots on the web. There is an element of accountability also when you have a blog. If you post about a great project that you want to do, you'd better do it and post the results!

I am NOT a writer, so sometimes I feel like my blog is far less eloquent than some other people we know from these forums, but I just remind myself that I'm not blogging as an outlet for my writing. For me, it's more of a place to celebrate homeschooling and family life and to share ideas with other moms in similar circumstances.

I am with Blogger, I had previously tried another provider and nearly pulled out my hair, it was soo frustrating to use. I nearly gave up, when I moved to blogger I couldn't get over how easy it was I chose blogger because of the ease to use and the fact that it was free was a big plus, also someone on this forum (I'll leave her anonymity ) who had a couple of blogs mentioned that although she had a typepad blog she would have been just as happy with blogger. That was the clincher.

Security wise I use pseudonyms for my dc and side or back views of pictures, this is dh's wish, we may change as we become comfortable.

Blogging takes a little longer when you are using photos, otherwise it varies, it can be as quick as Marianne says or longer. I find myself often 'writing' something in my head during the day before I get to post. I aim to post bout once a week, sometimes I manage more. I began to blog because I never managed to keep a journal even though I meant to for years, it is my way to write memories. I am very happy I started.
