Hearthsong has a bunch of their Christmas kits on sale, some close to 50% off, including the candles Elizabeth refers in her Tomie de Paola unit and a neat looking Victorian decoration pkg.
I ordered today and she told me they still have a lot left. I planned crafts from these, Seton's Art 1, A Year with God, and a pile of living books this afternoon. Other than reading and crafts (they can do themselves), we will just enjoy the new baby. Now I am totally excited for Advent!

You might like this
Young Naturalists Notebook ($4.99)
I don't know how many journaling pages it has but it includes:
* A beautiful 16-page, spiralbound, full-color notebook that's chock-full of stunning nature photographs, info, and activities.
* Paints, brushes, tissue paper, plain paper
* 5' tape measure
* Glue stick, pipe cleaners, pencil
* Record your observations on the journal pages included in the notebook and you'll have a field guide to treasure.

Just got the Young Naturalists Notebook. Very lovely! It has about 10 different activities to do like pounding a flower, making a paper snowflake, making a map of the backyard, doing a leaf print. There isn't a whole lot to it, but it is a good starting point and the pictures are very nice!

Oh man...I did tell dh I spent some xmas money on crafts, but I did NOT mention the total after tax, s and h. I think I'll be glad though, when the girls have something to do during Dec.
So here's the question...If I am reading to them daily (gorgeous xmas picture books), if they are baking and crafting daily, but we *aren't* doing math, narrations, or history/science...would you still count them as school days?

We did this last year during December and it was one of lovliest Advent we have ever had as a family. I can't wait to do it again this year. My hope this year is to make most of our gifts for friends and family. I have a plan, I think we can do it!

OF COURSE you count these as learning days -- they're (and you) are learning aren't you????? We do some of our best learning on days like these -- measuring, fractions, geometry, etc. Not to mention the conversations that fly around .... DEFINITELY school days and we can't wait. Thomas is praying for another heavy snow-winter so we can stay inside, get cuddly, read/read/read, and drink cocoa and craft!

Awwwwwwww, you've made my day! Unschooling is very awkward for me, though I have a ton of unschooling books on my shelves that I glean from regularly. I guess I just needed someone to give me permission.
Maybe I'll encourage the girls to scrapbook the Advent Season, what they do every day, take pictures of each other. They'd love that. Uh oh...I feel a spending binge at the scrap store coming on...

Just barging in here, a bit off topic, but Hearthsong also has a Sugar Skull kit this year. It looks like it would go nicely with the Catholic Mosaic for November celebrating the Day of the Dead.
