Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are looking at going to one of the Holy Family Fests at Catholic Familyland this summer. We have to travel to Ohio for a wedding anyway, so we are looking into combining the two.

I was hoping for some details from those who have gone there, sort of the nitty-gritty type of stuff.

Lodging- I am not the "roughing it" type. Even the cabins with no bathrooms or AC scare me a bit, especially with 7 kids and pregnant. What is the bath/shower situation like? What are the cabins really like?

Meals- The catered meal plan seems a little steep, it comes to $9/day for dinner for 4 of us and $6.50/day for the younger four. That wouldn't count breakfast and lunch. Has anyone purchased the dinner plan? What are the prices like at the snack shack and little store?

Activities- I am wondering how "worth it" it would be for dh and me when we will have a 3 yr old and 15month old with us for everything. But I am sure the kids would enjoy their sessions. My dh is worried about doing a vacation where we are on a schedule. For some reason, he thinks that I would be uptight and perhaps even vocally unhappy if we were running late for things. (Which of course we would be!) Did you feel pressured to get to everything or get it all done?

Last question (for now), how crowded does it feel there? I love the idea of a Catholic vacation with like minded families. However, dh and I are both the sort to avoid crowds. We really prefer a low-key, hang back and relax environment, especially on vacation.

Thanks so much in advance! You can never quite get a complete picture about things just from a website.

It would be great to meet you too! I am feeling a little hesitant, though, about a week without air conditioning or a bathroom in the cabin. I am just a pampered Suburban girl, I guess! We have no AC right now and we are just sweating. Not fun.

Anyone else stayed there? I was sure there would be at least a few folks who had attended something there.

Molly,

I got an email from Catholic Familyland at the beginning of the summer. They said that someone had donated a/c units for all the cabins. Hope this helps!

Molly, did you end up going? And did you get to meet chicken lady?    I always have to laugh when I read your nom-de-pleume chicken lady

Our family went for our second year in a row!!
We just got back last week.
TOTALLY WORTH THE DRIVE TO BLOOMINGDALE, OHIO (7 hours for us)! There were families there from Wisconsin (12 hour drive) and even Texas (they split their drive into 2 days!!)

The week long FamilyFest was like going on a spiritual retreat for each one of us (we have 7 kids - ranging in age from 12 to 2 years). Everyone met new friends, got a lot of outdoor air and exercise, went to daily Mass and said a Rosary everyday!

My husband tells everyone he can about his great experience. Imagine!

The highlight of MY trip was meeting ElizLeone from 4Real! That was SO COOL! She's everybit as wonderful as she is here! Her family was a delight to meet! Beautiful, every one of them!!!

I promise you, you'll be glad you looked into CFL.

Here is their website!
