Well ours died today! yes, 10 days after our extended warranty ended. So I will be shopping for a new one anyone have a favorite brand... Seems like they don't last for us. This one was 7 years old..... I just wish they made things to last but it does not seem that way anymore nothing last like my mom stuff did. She had a fridge that was over 40 years old the only reason she gave it up was because of the color, it was an aqua blue color, bought in the late 1950's. So anyone have some thoughts on this yea or nay's on brands.....
Thanks and God bless,

We love our front loader-the Duet.
My DH is crazy about comparing things to save money so he compared our water usage for a year and we definitely used less water. We had a well at first so it didn't save that much money but now that we have city water it does.
It also does bigger loads so I can do fewer loads, though you wouldn't know it from how often I do laundry ;)
I also use just a fraction of the soap I used to use to it goes further.
They are more expensive than a top loader but it's evened out already for us after 4 yrs according to my DH's figures....whatever they were. (of course, we got ours at a great price since we bought from Nebraska Furniture Mart)
I'd check Consumer Reports for the latest comparisons.

We have a Maytag frontloader and its companion dryer. They are great: low energy use, low water use, low detergent use, work really well. Everything I could hope for in a washer and dryer.
Peace,
Nancy

I thought we were going to have to replace our washing machine a couple of weeks ago (the water flow all-but-stopped) but it turned out that it was a easy fix that I found out how to do on the internet!
Anyway, that said, I was starting to shop for one. Consumer Reports's June issue (link here for washing machines) specifically states that none of the new TOP loaders come close to the performance of the the FRONT loaders. When the TOP loaders meet the energy standards, they just don't clean. (The link doesn't explain this as far as I can see, but check out the library for the issue)
FRONT LOADER all the way.

We recently purchased a new washer after doing lots of research. We were all set to get a front loader until we were told they are not recommended for use on the second floor due to the rapid spinning. Just another thing to consider if you have an upstairs laundry.

Ours was on the 2nd floor with no problems. Salesperson didn't comment about this either-maybe it's a new caution?

I don't know about upstairs problems either, my friend has had a front loader on her second floor for years.
I don't know if this will help, but I just did a quick seach on the internet - some models may be worse than others; it's possible the pedestal makes it worse; and the Whilpool Duet Sport is at least one model that has purposely been designed to have "less shake"

I strongly recommend the Whirlpool Duets!! I have had two of them for five years with no problems at all. I know I have saved money using much less detergent, bleach, etc. And since we have a septic system, the lower water usage is great.

Well, I started looking today. The biggest problem is we have a small house and my laundry room is VERY small and the front loader will not fit in there . So I will keep looking and researching....
Thanks for all the info,

A friend of mine has a front loader and its dryer that stack one on top of the other. I'm thinking you're not in the market for a new dryer, right? But, just dreaming here, maybe if the stacking pair fit, you could sell your present dryer to raise $ toward getting the set? Just a thought.
Peace,
Nancy

I also have the Kenmore front load washer and dryer. And they are on the top floor of our house. We have never had a problem. It does go fast, but it does not shake this old house! I think that the Duet and the Kenmore are made by the same manufacturer. The front loaders do save money, so if you have lotsa laundry (and plenty of room because they do take more space), I highly recommend them!

The first thing we bought when we moved into our home 7 years ago was a Kenmore stacked washer/dryer. We don't have a lot of room, so it was important to have it stacked. I picked out the highest capacity top load washer with dryer above. My parents have only had Kenmore without a problem, and ours has never given us a problem. Seems to clean well, and I've even washed twin size comforters in it.
Incidentally, my father wouldn't let me buy a front loader because he insisted they could leak. (He was paying half the cost, so he had a say in what we bought.) I would be interested to hear if this has ever been a problem for those of you who have them. Always good to know for future reference!
Peace and Laughter,

I just got (like, 2 wks ago) a brand new GE high efficiency front loader...oh my goodness. LOVE IT! Its the one that will wash 23 towels in one load...oh me oh my...and the way my dds (the 7 and 5 yr olds) can mess up towels (I am moving the stack this week, which will alleviate SOME of the problem)...well, let's just say that there are times I FEEL like I've got 23 towels in there, lol.
I got the matching dryer too..and it is SOO nice (my dryer had died and my DH thought I could use the "uplift" of a matched set of frontloaders to make my job a bit easier...whoohoo! Dyson for Valentines, Matched washer/dryer for mother's day...

We like our Kenmore and bought the service contract which covers yearly maintenance. I'm not so happy with the contract at the moment. Their idea of an appointment is between "8am and 5pm." They call just before they come, and if you are in the bathroom, changing a diaper or, say, vacuuming because you can not wait a moment longer to get the food off the dining room rug and don't pick up, they cancel your appointment. I'm very unhappy about that. Eight hours of babysitting my portable phone wasted. Just my $.02 in case you are considering getting a service contract.
