Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We'd really like to celebrate our oldest turning 13 this August with a special gift. I'm planning on taking him out to dinner alone for some one-on-one time as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

A leatherman type multi purpose tool or swiss army knife.

Does he like to camp? Maybe a nice little tent, or camping supplies of some kind.

We started a new family tradition with our oldest son, and plan to continue it down the line. on his 13th birthday we gave him the start of his "hope chest". He recieved a very nice steamer trunk from us, a high end starter tools set from my parents, a couple of high quality cooking pots from my in-laws, his little sister cross-stitched his intials on a few good towels and so on.

We are still working on a name for the trunk for the boys, they laugh at "hope chest" Our next son turns 13 this summer, so we are hoping to rename the tradition by then.

That is such a nice idea, LeeAnn. Maybe you could call it a "tool chest" since all you'll be putting in it are tools that help you to live your life independently when he reaches the right age.

My son is quite musical. My husband wants to give him his own iPod. I'm not sure. I'd like to give him Backyard Ballistics or Dangerous for Boys book. But those all seem pale in comparison to a "tool chest."
