Ds and Dh picked a bunch yesterday, and they are delicious. I would like to cook with them but have always been disappointed with my "blackberry cobblers of the past".
Does anyone have a good recipe for blackberries?

Hi Melinda,
Well, I have not had much success with blackberry cobblers either! What I usually do with our blackberries is make pie. If you PM me with your email address, I'll send you the recipe.
It is very delicious!

One good thing about blackberries is that they are not as fragile as, say, raspberries. They hold up just fine in the fridge for several days, so you can continue to enjoy them fresh for a little while.
I can't wait for blackberries to be in season here! We put in 11 bushes this spring, but they're not expected to bear until next summer. In the meantime we'll have to continue picking elsewhere.
Peace,
Nancy

You could try a pie instead of a cobbler, but my favorite way is on oatmeal with cream for breakfast or tossed with any of your favorite greens as a yummy salad

We freeze them for smoothies. I can't seem to go a day without a smoothie when it's hot. To freeze, I do the same as with strawberries: rinse, dry, freeze on cookie sheets, and then into freezer bags. Enjoy - I cannot wait for blackberries!

Well, if you are having trouble coming with ideas, you can send them here. They will last no time. LOL

Amen. My kids would eat all of them in a frenzy of literally shoving them in their mouths. (We're trying to work on manners ).

I have an easy cobbler recipe that I'll post when I find it but it won't help you Melinda b/c it has wheat. Not sure what you could substitute; it uses a cake mix.

If i mix blackberries with other fruit such as peaches, rhubarb, cobblers with blackberries tend to turn out better.

Here's my super easy cobbler:
1 can cherry pie filling (or substitute fresh berries, but probably need to add a bit of sugar to sweeten)
1/2 tsp almond extract
1/2 pkg white or yellow cake mix
1/4 to 1/2 cup melted butter
Mix pie filling/berries with almond extract and pour into buttered 9x9 inch pan. Sprinkle cake mix over pie filling. Drizzle melted butter over all. Bake at 350 degrees for 55 min.

Blackberry and apple crumble (the apples to pad the blackberries out a bit).
You could adapt this recipe.
Or blackberry and apple jam.

Mmmmm....I had my first wild blackberry in 5 years earlier this week! Delicious! We found one small hand full of ripened berries to share before we left CA and flew back to FL. You lucky ladies in berry country are in for a treat this year!
They were warm and tasted like sunshine.

Hi,
I'm late on this thread, but when we were living on the island we had as many blackberries as we could stomach, freeze, can etc (Now we have none... we are prairie bound now!!).
We made lots of jam, and also made blackberry syrup for pancakes (follow instructions on pectin- we used the sugar (and sugar substitute) free one). You can cook the blackberries with a bit of water and cornstarch into a nice pie filling and top with some whipping cream. I'll second the smoothies. Also, I would often line the bottom of a cake pan with them and pour over a plain cake batter to make a berry bottom cake.
My kids all time favourite (besides the gobbling) was when we froze some, then whipped them frozen with real whipping cream and a bit of sugar into a sumptous ice-creamy dessert!!
Happy Eating!!
