Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

anyone experienced with camping in a rainforest???

my ds will be in boyscouts in PR and they go camping in the rain forest.

now we are avid campers, always have been, but never in the 'rainforest" it sounds so alien to me, lol. I guess it conjures up images of the Amazon and jungle beasts etc...lol

anyone know of any safety health tips to relate?

My dh grew up in Costa Rica and he camped there all the time, rainforest, desert, beach, you name it. He was in the equivalent of scouts there. He doesn't describe it as any different than here, really.

Be careful of those little red ants ! That is the one thing we learned to watch out for .They really latch on and hurt . My dh had a bad reaction from them because he'd been cooking at the fire all day ( because of the rain of course ) and those little nats had been biting him all day . When he lay down to sleep he could not breath properly and had to go to the hospital .He was ok but it was scary for us .
At night there are sounds well lets just say we come from the prairies so it was really scary for me
we never had any trouble from animals but when we'd wake in the morning there'd be items moved like pails knocked over etc.
Oh the scariest time for me was not the rainforest but the mountains in chiapas .In the middle of the night we awoke to lous stomping of gallopping horses ! we 'd set our tent up right at the edge of a horse trail the horses would go running at night I guess . It was really wierd .
So my only tip for rain forest is ants , mosquitos and use a propane stove not firewood or you'll be cooking all day . oh yes shake your shoes out if you take them off at night check them in the morning .
maybe plants too becareful of different plants when our eldest ds was 1yo wepd been camping on a beach .He broke out ina starnge plotchy rash . I freaked out and was about to rush to the hospital .Turns out the lady up the rode new what it was a certain tree there on the carribean coast can cause this rash especially fair skinned people .It was cleared up by the use of another plant
most native peolples cary a brach to use to twitch off mosquitos . We use birch or chokecherry here not sure what they'd use in your rain forest though .When in doubt watch the natives and do what they do sort of monkey see monkey do
I always thought it'd be neat to see from the top of the forest myself
