Well, David came home on Sunday afternoon--weighing in over his birthweight, at about 5lbs, 3oz. We've done quite well the last couple of days, dealing with a newborn in the house. DH had to go back to work on Monday, so it has definitely been interesting. My head cold/allergy has not made things easier, but I am coping.
John is now a touch under 5 lbs, and over his own birthweight--he and David are gaining about an ounce a day, sometimes a wee bit more, sometimes a wee less...but usually right around an ounce. John will hopefully be home on Wednesday, barring anything "interesting" happening. So far so good, though.
I'm still pumping like a maniac. We try to nurse, but they are still so small, they don't do too well....they can latch, but not stay on for more than a moment or two. So I'm pumping and bottle feeding. I'm almost to the point where I am making enough for them both to have nothing more than breastmilk, but not quite. But at least they are each only getting formula once or twice a day.
Thank you all for your prayers. I just found out yesterday that DH will be leaving on the first, so our time is very short. My parents are coming for a brief visit this weekend, to see the boys and say goodbye to DH. Dad hasn't seen the boys except in pics, and mom only got to see them a couple of times, and they were a bit smaller. So they will have a good time (plus, David is named for my dad, so that's a bonus for him, lol, getting to see his little namesake, who just happens to look JUST like him, lol).
Thank you so much, for all of your support and prayers and best wishes. I don't think I'd be doing as well as I am if it weren't for the prayer support I have received. Michelle, I got your envelope the other day--THANK YOU!!! That will all get put to good use!
Rachel

So happy to hear of the good progress your boys are making. What a thrill to have David home. You can look at him or hold him whenever you want to . Praying that John will be home very soon. Also praying that these last weeks before your husband goes are peaceful ones for your family.
Peace,
Nancy

That is wonderful that David is home! Praying for you to have John home with you tomorrow.
Do you have help while dh is gone? How long is he gone? I wish we lived next door so we could help you out!
Lots of prayers coming your way. God bless you.

Minimal help in the form of SILs coming for a week or so right after he leaves. Still no idea of precisely when/who will be coming, but we'll see. He's supposed to be gone for AT LEAST a year, probably 15-18mos. He'll have a couple of weeks of leave at least, during the tour at some point, but that is many months away, of course. That reminds me I need him to show me how to use the video part of the digital camera so I can take video and email them to him--not to mention how to actually "download it" to the computer...he's the family techno-weenie...lol.
We're actually adjusting pretty well to the new wee one/s...of course, David's only been home a couple of days, John's not here, and they both just eat/sleep/fill their diapers at this point. When they start being a bit more demanding, we'll have to see...lol.
Anyway, we're doing fairly well, overall. I'm glad John will be home tomorrow, barring something strange happening. It will be SO nice not to have to make the nightly trip to the NICU to see him for a couple of hours, maybe feed him, etc. Not to mention not having to freeze the milk I am pumping...lol.
Thanks again, ladies...
Rachel
