Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I don't know if we've done that one yet, but I happened upon this blog post today-I LOVE the idea of putting detergent in a pretty bowl.

I'm getting so excited to move-I want my new house to be a pretty and pleasant place to be-not just utilitarian.

If I could only find my laundry room floor!

Seriously, I struggle just to keep it manageable, although I do like to look at home catalogs at the nice prints or mats and such to add a little loveliness to it. It is small and cramped, but it could be better. Sigh. Maybe someday. Right now, I would settle for finding the floor.

Me too. We have plans to finish ours and MAKE it lovely ... but right now it's a dim, concrete mess with piles of laundry on the floor.

Well my laundry is NOT the loveliest, it is ajoining our former garage which has steps leading up to the main part of the house and kitchen. It has a 'rougher' look to it as it is not plastered in and still has the brick work showing, so when I first planned decorating it I wanted to give it a more rustic look.

I had found a beautiful print and then went to the demolition place and found some old pieces of timber with peeling paint still on them. I took them to friends of mine that were framers and asked if they could use this wood to make the frame for the print, which they did. We also hung two antique bed heads horizontally from the ceiling from chains, where I hang all sorts of bits and pieces from them, I use to hang dried rose and lavender bunches.

Here is a photo of the picture:

I jokingly say I have this above my washing area to remind myself, that I've got it much easier than I think I have!

That is great, Annie! Love the frame! Truly we do have it so much easier than women of the past. What a wonderful reminder.

I think my laundry room is the only place that stays somewhat clean/organized b/c I'm the only one using it!

I will tell you, though, that next to a print of the Madonna and Child, I hung my framed bachelor's degree. I figured it should hang in my "office"

I used to hang mine in my kitchen for the same reason!

Too funny! I don't even know where mine is. Perhaps I should dig it out and put it in the bathroom. That way I can sit and contemplate how "all my education went down the tiolet" according to my Mom.

Anne,
That is a lovely picture, I love that. Do you know who painted it?

I would love a picture of St Martha in my laundry.

I use to have a statue of her on my shelf in the kitchen and every Tuesday I would light a little tea candle in front of her as a special devotion that I heard about.
It was nice and always helped me.
If I was having a one of those bad days, complete aversion to my kitchen I would pray to St Martha to help me pick my socks up and get into it.

I just found this also:
HUNNA
Also known as
the Holy Washerwoman
Memorial
15 April
Profile
Daughter of the duke of Alsace. Wife of an Alsatian nobleman named Huno of Hunnaweyer, she lived in the diocese of Strasbourg. Mother of one; her son, Deodatus, was baptized by Saint Deodatus of Nevers, and eventually became a monk. Devoted to the poor, Hunna would help the less advantaged with any task, and was given to helping all her neighbors, regardless of class or station, with their laundry.
Died
679 of natural causes
Canonized
1520 by Pope Leo X
Patronage
laundresses, laundry workers, washerwomen
Representation
noblewoman surrounded by linens; washing clothes for the poor and sick

Maybe she's the one to help us all find our floors - St Hunna.

I think I will start my devotion to St martha again.

Happy Washing!
C

I plan to buy a Polish Madonna picture for my laundry room. DH wants to repaint it and we're still unpacking (after 5 months!) so I'm waiting for a bit more order. But that link, Jennifer, made the laundry room look really lovely! I wish I didn't have two warehouse-type-metal-shelf-units-on wheels in mine when I see those blog pictures!

I have to tell you, you ladies are so inspirational!

After reading you posts and the blog linked above, and once I got over the yucky feeling of jealousy over all that pretty stuff on the blog, I actually got busy and organized my laundry "area" (it is just a section of the garage).

No more piles of laundry on the floor, swept floor, sparkling clean machines, and organized shelves above. No pretty porcelain bowl, but it feels so much nicer to work in there!
THANK YOU!

Too late for the before pics, plus I would be too embarrassed-it was BAD! But I could do some afters. Let me work on that!

Oh my goodness....speaking of laundry room makeovers, you HAVE TO SEE this one!

I was JUST THINKING of giving our laundry area a make-over and re-organizing it, and then I saw this thread!

Our laundry room is in our basement, and my husband HAS TO walk through it to get to his home office . Poor guy. So, this is one of my projects for the summer!!!! I'm going to take a before pic tomorrow.

Well, my detergent is still in the big tub it comes in, but otherwise my laundry room looks pretty good! Thanks Suzanne for the link! I took some of her ideas and ran with them. The laundry room has looked good and the laundry has gotten done for the past two weeks.
That is a MAJOR accomplishment here .
