Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are finding our sandboxes-the snow is melting--and I am motivated to find ideas for dd(who is 4)to play there. She does enjoy cooking and I am going to try to get some spoons , bowls, and measuring cups. I save some recyclables that seem neat. We have shovels and pails. When it is warmer I will allow water--I am such a cool Mom. What else would be fun, for a girl, in the sandbox? The trucks just don't cut it for her and they are in the give away bag--she just isn't interested.
Tomboy that I was, I am having a hard time with my little "girly" girl.
Thanks for any suggestions!
Anne-who is so looking forward to a 60 degree day....

a sieve
pots and pans.. especially things to cook pies and cakes in (Which are so fun to make out of dirt.. the sieve with dry sand makes a great "sugar" coating )

Possibly for a change some little figure toys.. like the sets of dogs or horses.. you can get some decent sized horses a lot of the time from the dollar store. Those all my kids love boy or girl.. but how they play with them is oh so different

Try hiding some plastic gems (collage materials from Discount School Supply), spray painted gold rocks, or "gold" coins (available at toy stores and sold as pirate booty) for her to "discover." My kids LOVE to dig for treasure!

We have all types of cooking utensils in the sand box. One thing we really like are old Jello molds, they are great for both cooking play and structure building. I buy them at thrift stores really cheap. The metal ones I spray with a coat of poly urathene (sp?) to prevent rusting.

We also have a lot of figurines for the sand box. I look for grab bags of them at garage sales.

Also we have gardening tools in the box. We have a big bag of woodies that they will make into forests and fields

My older boys built my daughter a box to keep her sand stuff in. Its just an open top cedar box with drainage holes, but they painted a stove top on the bottom, a castle on one side, a forest on the other.

We are blessed with a 2 acre back yard, and have a huge sand box (12 feet by 12 feet) All of my kids still play in it almost daily, the 14 year old to the 2 year old.

What about hiding seashells and colored "gems" from the craft store in the sand? My kids love digging for the treasure buried in the box. Colleen
