Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I heartily recommend St. Rita and St. John Bosco---two new movies from Ignatius Press. The production values are excellent. I teared up in both; the acting is great (as long as you watch the original Italian with English subtitles---it is superior).

Although I allowed most of my children to watch (who can read! ), I do warn you that St. Rita has some medieval (slaying by the sword) violence and mild sensuality (and shirtless husband of Rita). They are so highly worth your watching, ladies, with your husbands regardless.   You can always watch them before your children.   I am so happy Ignatius Press has made these available.

Finally, decent movies---actually exciting, romantic and thrilling, with wonderful acting, plots, screenplays, locales, and cinematography. And the BEST part: our beautiful Catholic Faith portrayed as the most valuable and worthwhile thing in life, the only ultimate thing worth living---and dying---for!

Just had to share, as I spent a rainy Divine Mercy weekend watching St. Rita and it made my heart glad.

Love to all!

Those sound great! Just wondering if you've seen St. Anthony of Padua from Ignatius press. I love that movie!

Oh, thank you, thank you, Trish, for getting me excited! We also have two others, yes---St. Anthony and Padre Pio. We haven't watched those two yet.

I think there may be one more, Pope John Paul II with Jon Voight (although not an Italian made-film), that may be on Ignatius' "Label".

I want you all to buy these as I want them to make/endorse more of them!!!! I'm not sure if all of these Italian saints (an Italian filmmaker?) points to a continuation along those lines...but heck: who cares! There are tons and tons of great Italian Saints to devote bioepics to!

These films make the saints so accessible to us...which is what I LOVE. My kids have a NEW love for St. Rita who they never really *related to* and a renewed love for St. John Bosco and St. Dominic Savio!

Nina,

I ditto Nina's recommendation! We just watched the St. John Bosco recently and loved it too!! I hardly noticed the subtitles! It is long, so we needed to watch it over two nights!! We're getting old.

And by the way my dh and I are reading a St. John Bosco book (Reason, Religion and Kindness), so when asked for suggestions, I recommended the movie for his birthday wishlist. And it even helps us have renewed interest in our book!

My children gave me the Saint Rita movie for Easter and we enjoyed it very much!! We hope to get the Saint John Bosco one soon.

(in fact I have watched the Saint Rita movie twice since Easter and the movie is 3 hours long!!)

Jackie, you crack me up. I know, I've watched it 1 1/2 times already, too! And my daughter has watched John Bosco almost 4 times---uh oh---now, I'm thinking: is it all the boys in it? Just kidding!!!    Talk about long....that one is looooong. Got to break them up into parts one and two, for sure.

I forgot to mention there are a few scenes in St. Anthony that contain some sensuality. It portrays the struggles and temptations he had to go through to pursue his vocation. So you might want to preview it before you let the children see it. And it has subtitles too. Kind of hard to watch and read out loud to the little guys.
This film actually renewed my love for St. Anthony. He's one of my fav's and I find myself calling on him all the time.

Oh, we don't have that one! It's St. Francis that I'm awaiting the return of.... I'll have to look into Anthony, too.

(Now I'm wondering about the content of Francis....it says on Amazon: "starring one of the sexiest Italian actors...." Please! As if we want that to become our image of St. Francis!    )
