I am donating my hair to this lovely organization. Sick kids just get to me. Here's how long my hair was.
The ends had curled up in the bag. I feel about 5 pounds lighter (which I've probably already put back on with all the chocolate I've been consuming since yesterday ).

People at the salon gasp when I do this. They just can't believe that someone can get 10 to 12 inches of hair chopped off ... just like that. I've had my hair chopped ... er ... I mean, cut twice for LOL. My 11 yo daughter did once with me. They ask me how long it took to grow all that hair. I have no idea. Then they ask how I can stand having so much cut off at once. I tell them, "It's not *about* me." There are pictures in my salon of young girls crying as they "sacrifice" their hair for locks of love. You know what? It grows back.

I just donated again and had 14 inches lopped off! I have to admit though two things.
The first is that I don't always plan to grow it out for the 2 years or so it takes - I just don't bother taking care of my hair and when I get close to the 10 inches, I start thinking that I might as well wait and donate.
The second confession is that this time I wanted to donate maybe 11 1/2 or 12 inches. The extra 2 inches (my hair is now about chin length ) were due to the math-impaired stylist. After she had cut it and I told her how the braids looked much longer than a piece of paper (my guage), she showed me her "6 inch comb" that she had used to measure. The 6 was indeed the last number on the comb, but it was an inch from the end!! When I told her it was a 7 inch comb she said "where's the seven?" and asked another stylist to make sure that I was right. (A nice homeschool lesson for you all - a 1 inch mistake, when measuring twice becomes a 2 inch mistake.) LOL , I know I'm becoming a little more of a grown-up since I didn't run up to my room and stay there for 3 days! (to her credit, it is a nice haircut - just not my plan)

As a mom of a child with alopecia areata, I say, THANK YOU to all of you who donate.
My 7yo is trying to grow hers out, but I think we will be "donating" it to Hip Hats because she wants her own sister to get her hair. I think we have another inch or so to go.

My daughter is planning to donate hers soon. Mine isn't long enough, yet. But I only cut it about once a year, so it shouldn't take long!

My 7 yo has the most beautiful, unbelievably thick hair. She has already donated to locks of love twice in her young life. I think one of her pony tails is as much hair as those of two girls with fine hair!
And I'm glad that she looks adorable with the chin-length cut that's left after the donation.

My middle daughter just did this, too! I lopped off her ponytail yesterday. She, too, feels five pounds lighter!

Emily did it recently as well and it was a great experience all the way around! Now, of course, the other girls want to do it.

I donated my hair about 3 years ago, and am hoping to have enough patience to do it again in another few months. My dd is excited about doing it as well, but she's still got a ways to go also. Our local paper has a neat feature that posts photos of the children (with their cut ponytail )~I think that's a great encouragement for the kids.
Kudos to all the kids who are doing this!

My 11yo daughter Laura, donated her hair two years ago, the day after she "ringbearered" in her brother's wedding.

We did it! I finally cut my dd's hair yesterday. Boy was I nervous!
Here is the post at my blog about it
I was afraid my dd (and I!) would not like her new look as much, but seeing it today after it has settled in a bit- I really love it! I'm glad we did it.

I whacked about 10 inches off Abigails head just last week. It took her a year to grow it out, and while she looks too cute with that short hair, she wants to grow it out and do it all over again this time next year! :) I think I shall blog it!

Awesome, KC and all who donate to Locks of Love. My dd and I donates for several years. Even when my gray hair became more noticable, LOL told me that they would take the gray out and resell it...or something like that!
I had never heard of Hip Hats...very Hip!
Love,
